Im in NY, this state fucking rocks! I have everything here i need. I got anything and everything 24/7 even on christmas. I can get chinese food, pizza, greek, indian and god knows what else all at 5 star quality delivered all within 20 min. I got over 9 million people that are my neighbors withing 5 bourough's. When someone says "FUCK YOU" they mean have a good day. The cops are great. I can walk down the street with a beer in my hand and a joint in the other and a cop would just say put out the joint and throw out the beer because they do not even want to waste their time arresting you (ive done it few years ago). Anyway i completly forgot their was 49 other states....

This is the funniest thread ever.
New York's economy would crumble in about a week
without the other 49 states. MY man you have the worst
case of myopia I have ever seen.

And as much as I love New York, I love the other
50 as well. There are few things that you cannot
find in a lot of other places as in New York, and in
New York City. Open your eyes. Have you ever
been across the state line?

New York City is probably the crown jewel of America. But when it comes to a state, California is where it's at. Besides NYC, New York sucks. But CA, wow. How many cool and famous cities are there? more than any other state I'd imagine.

Obviously you didn't eat at the same place in Chinatown that I did. Hardly 5 star, but I almost made it to the 5 star toilet I was staying at

I don't see any correlation between the two...

If it weren't for the other 49, NYC would drown in it's own trash inside of a month. Other states take (literally) breath-taking amounts of garbage that NYC can't handle.

When you leave NYC you don't go anywhere or putting it another way, " There Is No There, There". I love this city.

Nitish, I must disagree with you about the rest of New York State. As a lifelong UPSTATE New Yorker, let me give you a quick and dirty geography lesson.....
  • New York State is indeed blessed to have the nation's largest city in population. New York's 5 Boroughs, Long Island, and Westchester and Rockland Counties are impressive. They literally have it all right there. New York is one of the world's great cities and is attached to a most spectacular state.
  • New York has many large upstate cities too. Contrary to the popular belief that New York ends at the Rockland County border, there is indeed lots of quality civilization found in the upstate cities of Albany (our capital), Schenectady (one of the most preserved pre-Revolutionary cities), Syracuse (home to the NY State Fair and one of the nation's best universities), Rochester (the city of lilacs, World's Image Centre, and home to such corporate names as Kodak, Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, Paychex, PaeTec, and Harris RF Corp.), and Buffalo (home to two state universities, and the gateway to Canada).
  • All New York's major cities are linked together by an Interstate highway system that also includes one of the nation's first superhighways, The Governor Thomas E. Dewey New York State Thruway. The Historical Erie Canal still exists as part of the larger New York State Barge Canal System.
  • The St. Lawrence Seaway is the vital link that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Great Lakes. Because of it, Rochester is a port city.
  • We have true international airports located in Albany, Plattsburgh, Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo, as well as those in the New York City area.
  • We are fortunate to have the Appalachian Mountains run through Eastern New York. The Adirondack and Catskill Mountains host thousands of vacationing visitors from all over the world each year. In the summer there are outdoor sports, and family theme park attractions such as the several located in the Lake George area, and the famous Santa's Workshop on Whiteface Mountian (also known as North Pole, NY). In winter, skiing and snowmobiling is the thing. Lake Placid, in the Adirondacks, has hosted two Winter Olympiads, and still serves as a training facility for Olympic athletes. Saratoga Springs is a center for horseracing.
  • The Thousand Islands are another vacation paradise, located in Central Western New York, along the Canadian border. Visitors have easy access to both sides of the border. Alexandria Bay on this side, and Kingston, on the Ontario side, are popular destinations.
  • The Finger Lakes of Central New York are home to New York's wine industry. The rolling hills surrounding the lakes are perfect for growing grapes. granted, New York wines are not as well known as those from California, but those who seek them out will be in for a pleasant surprise. With over 100 wineries, there are tours galore, and plenty of variety.
  • Niagara Falls, in Western New York, is one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World. The falls attract thousands of visitors from all over the world. They are also a major producer of environmentally friendly hydroelectric power, which both Western New York, and our wonderful neighbours in the province of Ontario enjoy.
  • If all that is not enough for you, then I submit the high quality of life available here. New York State is blessed with not one, but two Great Lakes...Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. They are two of the largest fresh water lakes around. We don't have to worry where our next glass of drinking water is coming from. Our lawns are always green, and our foliage is beautiful. The fault that we sit on is so inactive, that it hasn't erupted since 1985. The color show with the changing leaves each autumn is nothing short of spectacular. Yes, we have snow, and plenty of it, but it brings with it, a whole new set of possibilities for entertainment, and enjoyment. I like having four distinct seasons.
I won't say anything against California because I have been there and loved it too. But I will defend my home state to the end.......[-X

OMG! We're having a "The state of New York is great, but it wouldn't exist if it weren't for the other less than great states." Debate. YAY!!!

The preacher man says it’s the end of time
And the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I live back in the woods, you see
A woman and the kids, and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun rifle and a 4-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain’t too many things these ole boys can’t do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you can’t starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We came from the West Virginia coalmines
And the Rocky Mountains and the and the western skies
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I’d send him some homemade wine

But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars my friend lost his life
Id love to spit some beechnut in that dudes eyes
And shoot him with my old 45
Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cause you can’t starve us out and you can’t make us run
Cause one-of- ‘em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Ma’am
And if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn

We’re from North California and south Alabam
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck; we can run a trot-line
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

The other 49 states are crucial...for keeping all the lame people out of New York. ..|

Californy is the place you otta be.

If you can't take our smog it just proves you got wimpy lungs!

We got NYC beat for attitude all day!
Everyone here drives around lookin' like they're about to be discovered by Hollywood. No joke! Cakifornians are just superious.

In case you're not impressed, we got cat-eatin' coyotes, too!!

Western New York = HELL ON EARTH...or pretty close to it! born and raised and trust me....SO not something to brag about.

Everyone thinks they know the best place to live, but tastes vary. That's why there are choices. NYC might seem great, but not too many people rave about their summers (& that's WITH a/c). And now the city "leaders" are scared of just how expensive the stage-handlers strike might be. Nope, I enjoy being able to walk to where I wish to go, but not where $50 is viewed as "chump change"!
