I've noticed at Best buy you can only buy vinyl in store now (at least by me.) The CD section is fully gone and as much as I love analogue it does bother me. You can order vinyl but not CDS in store. You have to go online. I am seeing more vinyl pop up in walmart now as the CD section also gets smaller. But how many are buying records besides me?

I currently boycott youtube and all streaming services. I have asked some why they don't buy the new cd or LP from taylor swift for example. They listen to the full album on the net but refuse to buy the music. "I can't afford to buy music like you Kristopher." Then they light a cigarette and buy a pack a day. Cds cost $12-15 LPS $25. How can someone afford to spend minimum 35-50 a week on nicotine but can't afford to spend $12 a month for a new album? So income isn't the reason people won't support their favorite artist, clearly.

I used spotify one time and felt HORRIFIED as I saw entire discographies. I deleted it and never used it again. I did research 4 years ago and artists only make 0.02 cents for each time a song is played. The record labels are taking advantage of the artists that make them exist in the first place. I'm very happy to see artists are now finally withdrawing from spotify. Some are sending DCMA removals now on youtube. Guess whats happening? Their music sales are going up!

I have friends who buy cds, records, and itunes albums. But most of those friends are in other states. I am now seeing people go from torrents to just listening to music on youtube/streaming. (Have nothing against itunes, as the artists are rewarded for their work.)

And for those that don't smoke or have addictions.. why don't you buy the music you listen to? I think I know a big answer I just want to hear it rather then it running through my mind. I dont judge others for not supporting artists, its the fact that people DON'T that concerns me. I don't blame people wanting to enjoy music for free... I blame other entities. I'm not judging those who don't buy at all.

Anyone else buy music?

I pretty much gave up with following the charts years ago, i refuse to pay for what i can "get" for free.

Now and again i find the odd treasure vinyl LP in a second hand shop and buy it, though even those shops are jacking up the prices.

I have a handful of artists I still want the CD in my hand---but they are rare artists and have to buy it on Amazon or online would not be found in a store---but most of it I just download.

That's all I needed to hear :-)

And I don't blame people for thinking that way. Thank you for responding <3

I think because vinyl is becoming the leading trend with physical media. What you're getting (assuming youre not using a ceramic cartridge and you're using elliptical stylus with the exception of Mono Lps) is top notch audio quality. When the demand goes up, price goes up. I like that you still pick up rare treasures, always a fun adventure to find something you've always wanted.

I know how you feel on rare artists... that yes you have to get online or in a store that sells only music. FYE lets you order stuff online.

I still buy CD's, but mostly have to buy online, as not many stores stock them.

We still buy almost all our music.

I've spent untold thousands on vinyl and CD's over the years. I'm done.

Not much out there for me anymore. If I want something I get it free from one of the few remaining music blogs or download it off YouTube. The latter can be tedious, especially separating tracks on an album, but I can't see spending money on something I barely want.

I do. Within the past few days, I've received 3 Enya CDs and, in March, I received a new Jean-Michel Jarre and a new Mike Oldfield CD.

I don't have anything to download music to or play it on. No cell phone. No apps. No earbuds. Only my CD player.

I buy albums on google play.

My last CD I bought was the 90s ??
I have not listen to any CD music since ... only mp3

I attend concerts of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, BSO, and private parties for live classical music. Talk about ear porn.

I still buy CD's - mostly used ones at thrift-stores or garage sales (infact just picked up 11 of them last weekend).

I will never pay for downloads or streaming.

I don't ever download something for free. I don't buy a lot of music, but I want to support the artists who's music I like, not steal from them. And that's what downloading for free is. Its just plain stealing someone's intellectual property.

Just curious, how many of you watch porn for free on this and other websites?

Surprised most that replied still do! wow.

That's apples and oranges. Subscription to a porn site for 3 months or 6 months costs way more then a cd or album on itunes.

I only buy CDs and songs I really like, except for my favorite band which I buy all of their CDs before I hear them.

So there are different forms of theft depending on the cost of the original? Surely downloading music illegally and porn illegally are both theft of someone's artistic property? ( Did I just label porn as artistic property? :D )

Admittedly I don't buy much music but if I do it is in the form of a CD from Amazon.

With next to zero interest in the current hip hop and rap that dominate the Billboard charts there are very few new releases out any more that even get my attention. Amazon for those.
Fortunately we have a large CD collection and the stereo to enjoy them on.

It's very disappointing to not be able to go into my local music store and spend a couple of hours browsing the racks for the latest LP's (then cassettes. . .then CD's) Amazon is OK, but it just doesn't have the same feeling. It was even more discouraging when I ordered my Buick Lacrosse three years ago, that the manufacturer could not supply it with a in-dash CD changer  I don't mind that every Tom, Dick and Harry is enjoying their music downloads. . .it just feels like those of us who prefer hard copies ;) of our music have such limited resources from which to acquire them
