I heard on Entertainment Tonight (or similar show) that there will be a gay couple moving into Wisteria lane, and they only had a teaser (that I saw) of who would play the couple. Does anyone know whom they have chosen? They mentioned someone who had turned it down, but for some reason, I got the idea that they were offering the part to Beckham - probably just a rumor. I haven't been watching Desperate Housewives, but I will start again if they have a gay theme. (DB hates the show, and so I'll have to watch it in my room.)

yeah on Access Hollywood last night they teased that the parts had been offered to or rumored to have been offered to David Beckham and Robbie Williams would play the couple...but they said that wasn't true and that they were about to start the casting process this week

While it might make for an interesting story line, it probably won't present a positive gay image.
The women (and some of the men) on Wisteria Lane are very conniving and manipulative. The new gay couple will have to meet or exceed those qualities.
There are plenty of positive hetero images on TV, but few gay ones. Some cretins will assume the actions of the gay couple to be both evil and sterotypical.
The concept has possibilities, I just hope it's done well.

Beckham and Williams are rumored to have been offered the parts of the gay couple's English friends, also a couple.
I haven't heard anything about who will play the new couple though. I am interested to see how this pans out.
Hopefully, the gay couple won't be the cliche 'one is a manly man and the other is a prissy queen' kinda thing, ala Stepford Wives.

AND I want gay actors playing the roles.

haha I would love to see Robster coupled up with Becks, it would be hilarious!
but seriously tho, I think 2 unfamous actors (preferably gay) who can go deep on the storylines would be what I really want.

My vote for the couple would be Robert Gant (Queer as Folk) and Kevin Richardson (Former Backstreet Boy). Now that would be hot!

Well it should be obvious, Gyllenhaal and Ledger
Seriously, I know it could never happen but, can you imagine ..|

Marc Cherry is a self-hating gay man so it wouldn't surprise me if he adds another unlikeable gay character to the show. And if he casts David Beckham, I'll stop watching altogether.

Why do you say that Marc Cherry is self-hating?

I just hope that they add two normal gay men, and not the stereotypical flaming queen. We have had enough of those...

So what is Andrew going to seduce the gay couple?

Maybe Andrew will find a man and move out and become the gay couple.

I haven't heard that, but thanks for sharing the information. I have watched Desperate Housewives for a while now, and I love the show. A gay theme would make it more interesting. If I hear anything, I will post it here.

Gay theme? Where have you been Andrew came out a while back. You missed some good stuff.

LOL! I thought that too when I first read about this last week. Seriously, though, I think that Andrew should somehow be involved in their plotlines. It seems rather odd that he'd have gay neighbours and not be curious.

Can you just see Bree taking them some muffins trying to act as if it's all ok when she'd really be worried that they might further corrupt her son?

I am happy about the idea. I would hate to fuel the fire of the promiscuous gay life style, but I want one of them to be a real slut who flirts and makes a play for all the straight guys on Wisteria lane. I mean, it's Desperate Housewives for heavens sake. I think we know Marc Cherry well enough to imagine they will not be a monogamous gay couple.

Look at the gay storylines and characters he's put on the show! Totally negative.

Plus, he's a card-carrying Republican.

Exactly. I'm surprised this board didn't pick up on that.

Well DH want be on for long.. for the past two seasons the ratings have been on a ratings slide. And this season after the long hiatus, the ratings never bounced back.

Infact the show has lost its edge. Of course some will disagree with me on that. But the ratings back me up on this claim.

If you want a "gay creator" who isn't a self hating one.. just watch Brothers and Sisters or Noah's Arc on Logo. Marc had a very good chance to really create a strong gay character for this show...Hell, last season.... Andrew had less time on the screen. Hopefully this new "gay couple" will change things.

Brothers and Sisters is awesome. Last season I found myself watching DH just wasting time waiting for B&S. I'll give DH one more season though, it may get better.

Where did you hear/read that he's a republican?

Bree is a conservative woman, and Andrew was written the way he was so Bree would have another problem to deal with. It was realistic that she didn't accept her son's sexual preference. There needed to be conflict on the show, and the Andrew storyline supplied the conflict.
I wasn't thrilled about the only gay character on the show being a villain. But when I thought about it I realized that Andrew is, or was, just a bad person. Just because someone is gay doesn't make them a good person. The same goes for all minorities. There are good and bad. Andrew was one of the bad.
I thought it was an interesting storyline, because it didn't follow the rules set by the gay community. Andrew wasn't a stereotypical gay character, but he also wasn't a positive portrayal of a gay man. I thought that was interesting.

Andrew's boyfriend Justin, while underused and underwritten, was a nice guy. He loved Andrew and was devoted to him. Unfortunatly he vanished towards the end of season 2.

The other gay character on the show, Vern, is Gabby's flamboyant friend. I don't have a problem with this character because he is in the fashion world, like Gabby used to be. Plus Alec Mapa is a flamboyant guy, so the role suits him. And most importantly, he's funny.

And the most important thing to remember is that this show is a soap and is called Desperate Housewives. Its about the four (sometimes 5) women and their lives, so the focus needs to be on them. There is no time to go deep into characters like Andrew, Justin and Vern. They are there for support and they move the plots along, just like all the other characters.

The ratings have gone down, yes, but the show is still one of the most watched in America. And even at its worst, personally I think its better than most hour long shows airing today.

All you have to do is google it.. and you will know that Marc is a republican, I also think he's conservative as well.

I'm not denying that its not one of the most watched shows on TV. Hell I look at the ratings of every show, if I have access to it, and have the time. But when you look at the ratings from the time it debuted, the second season, and the third season. That's a trend that you do not want to happen. The ratings will have to IMPROVE this season. There can not be a ratings slide this season.. it has to go up!

Yes, I googled it and you're right. But there's debate as to whether he's republican or a libertarian. It makes sense that he's a libertarian. Hell, Orson had a whole speech early in S3 about being a libertarian. It makes sense now. :)

As for the ratings- DH was huge in its first season. I enjoyed Season 1 the most so far, but have yet to get bored with the show since.
The ratings went down in S2 because it wasn't as well written as it was before, and viewers picked up on hat.
S3 started off very good, but when Bree left for the remainder of the season, that dealt a major blow to the ratings, IMO.
This new season looks like its going to excellent from what I've read and seen. The ratings will be back I ensure you. As long as nothing unexpected happens behind the scenes like last year.

ABC wouldn't cancel DH unless it dropped out of the top 20 every week. And I don't see that happening for a few more years.
