Who will white racists vote for in the Ohio Governor's race?

A black man, but a Republican, verses a Democrat, but a white one from a rural district.

Where do you think the racist vote will go in Ohio this year? Will they stick with their party or hold their nose and vote for the "Democrat Party"? Or will they stay home (which helps the Democracy Party in down-ballot races)?

I live in white racist central, and that is the impression I'm getting. My dad is a staunch Republican who always votes - I know that he won't vote for Blackwell. He sounded like he was leaning toward Ted for awhile, but recently said that Ted doesn't sound qualified enough. I am so surprised that he actually seemed ready to consider it for awhile - he NEVER votes Democratic. It's hard to say overall, because I know just south of here in Pike county, Ted is revered by Dems and Reps alike. He has saved a major plant down there I don't know how many times. It doesn't mean the Reps will vote for him, but even hardcore Reps in the south central and southeastern areas respect the man. He used to be our district's rep in Ross county before re-districting, and now he is on the SE side, so he's covered a wide range.

Our candidates for Senate are a black Republican and an old white Democrat.

The Democrat is a major bore and a political hack but I can't stand the thought of Maryland sending a Republican to the Senate, especially if control of the Senate is really at stake. How ironic would it be if the Senate were 1 seat away from a Democratic majority and the state of Maryland (where Dems outnumber Republicans 2 to 1) sent a Republican to the Senate?

Won't happen... even w/Maryland being a Diebold state, it won't happen. Rest assured, that the majority of Maryland voters do not share your 'old white Democrat' sentiment about Cardin to the extent of not voting for him. How many 'old white Republicans' are there in the US Senate, again...?

I didn't say I wasn't voting for Cardin, just that he's going to be a do-nothing, just like our current Senators. I really wish we had somebody running who had flare and charisma to actually work for change and promote new ideas.

But Steele is definitely running a campaign to separate himself from Republicans and much of the very large African American community in Maryland likes Steele's message on social issues, especially anti-gay marriage. It could be important seeing as how we're awaiting a decision from the Maryland Supreme Court on gay marriage any time now.

If you are voting for the party hack instead of what the candidate stand for, you are part of the problem and not part of the solution. I always vote for the candidate who I belive will do the best job. I've only voted a straight party ticket once in my life and that was against Jimmy Carter and the Democrats in 1980.

That *might* have worked... in a pre-Katrina world... not a post-Katrina one.

It could be important seeing as how we're awaiting a decision from the Maryland Supreme Court on gay marriage any time now.

That decision won't come for at least two more years. We've been waiting over four for the one here in NJ.

First lets state that I'm not a racist nor white; so I guess I'm going to sort of highjack this particular thread...I'm really having a hard time figuring why and how anyone could even consider voting for the most unqualified candidate for Governor in the United States: Ted "Do Nothing" Strickland. He has no ideas, no vision, no quality.

This is not to say that ole' JKB is perfect. Obviously he doesn't share the same view of homosexuality as anyone on this post. But this is irrelevant to this particular race however, because neither does Strickland. So unless you're going to withhold from voting period, you must choose a side based on more than just "who's pro-gay" and "who ain't". I choose the side of fiscal conservatism and competence. I choose the side of vision and qualifications. And while I'm not in total sync with John Kenneth Blackwell, I support his candidacy on the grounds that I agree with him more than I disagree; and his opposition is wholly unacceptable in my opinion.

I'm voting for Blackwell.

Candidates stand for their party, whether they want to or not, particulary in this age of party discipline and dependence on party money.

The two parties have a history and an emphasis that are distinct enough to make a choice. There is little point in voting for someone who is a "nice guy" if he is going to support his party's agenda.

In Penna., I don't like making a choice between Santorum and Casey, but that is the choice and I will hold my nose and vote for Casey and all the other Dems.

Strickland is the most decent man I have ever met in politics. He is running about 20 points ahead so now he is being villified by Blackwell and the Republican surrogates, including radio hosts in Cincy area. It's disgusting and disgraceful what they have thrown at him. It's looking like a Democratic sweep, too, as Sherrod Brown is 8-9 points ahead of DeWhine. The Ohio Republican Party aligned with the far right and with loss of manufacturing base and jobs,jobs, jobs and scandals everywhere in the state, is done this time around. gman
