I find it disrespectful to make women anything more or less than regular people. Equal in every way. If you call for respecting everyone, be it men or women, i think that's commendable. But this culture of treating women as either sub human, or a protected class that needs everyone's care, respect, and protection is quite insulting. these two extremes have to be done away with.

Nitish. You are wrong. Respect is an inherent right and social necessity. If we made respect for sex, race, culture, religion, political affiliation and on and on, conditional on whether it meets with our approval or individual system of mores, there would be no respect at all. Every living and inanimate thing should be accorded a proper measure of respect for its very existence.

While you can determine whether you have respect for an individual based on your ideology, you are frankly not allowed to use the same rationale for collective entities. Period.

By the way, this is far more interesting than the original question, but I guess we'll soon get spanked for hijacking.
