  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Who would you be disappointed in seeing in a career ending scandal?

That first part might be true, but unfortunately even if that is true her track record is still pretty bad, especially recently, when it comes to Transgender people. Even if that point is factual that Doctors use it too often in some cases, it doesn't mean her bigotry doesn't exist and she isn't trying to use that information to validate her bigotry. She literally complimented Stephen King because she thought he agreed with her and then when Stephen King was pressed about the issue, he said he was for Trans rights and she deleted her praise for him.

This isn't the case of people just overreacting towards her for saying something that might not actually be Transphobic, cause even if you take away this instance she still has a history of saying some phobic things. I mean even Daniel Radcliffe came out and said something because one of her most recent takes. She hasn't really be relevant in recent times and unfortunately is using her platform to to do that by being bigoted.

Also I think Daniel Radcliffe is a good answer for this thread. I'd honestly be surprised if something came out about him.

She even went further than deleting the praise, she unfollowed him! I think that's telling.

Career ending? I only care about myself and a few people around me. It will be interesting to see if the Maxwell woman has anything on some of the great and good.

I think what she was saying was misinterpreted but there are a lot of doctors who think hormone therapy and surgery are used too often and too soon

That all depends on how messy your healthcare system is.

she isn't saying anything that radical and only time will tell if we are jumping the gun when we start treating 5 year olds with hormones----but if you are not 100% behind hormones and surgery you are going to be pounced on.

It is not that radical to merely state the fact that doctors would do and charge whatever for quick megabucks in the English-speaking world: that's what made the American doctocracy great.

^^^^ I understand their point and it is a good one - but it neglects to mention the efforts of countless individuals and organizations who DID try to engage the general public in a conversation - they were met with little interest or complete apathy.

After it reaches the boiling point and people are uncomfortable it is time to look in the mirror because silence and lack of interest makes that individual part of the problem which is exactly what is wrong and how we got here and thanks to that it may be too little and too late to join the conversation when they ignored it previously - unless they want to own their role in it.

Dump has a few redeeming qualities - the best one is that he never owns anything or takes any responsibility for anything. If you can't be a good example - a horrible warning can do just as much good.

Alan Bennett. He's often described as a national treasure. I can't imagine he has any skeletons in his closet.

^ Name was familiar but couldn't place it. Looked him up. Madness of King George, History Boys...Talented polymath. Partner edits an excellent and idiosyncratic design magazine. I applaud his decision to donate his papers to the Bodleian to "pay back the welfare state" for having given him opportunities he otherwise would never had.Good choice.

^ Right, they gave him paper money, he gives back paper scraps :rotflmao:

At this moment?

Joe Biden.

I think what she was saying was misinterpreted but there are a lot of doctors who think hormone therapy and surgery are used too often and too soon---which is what I thought she as saying--hormone therapy can be dangerous---she isn't saying anything that radical and only time will tell if we are jumping the gun when we start treating 5 year olds with hormones----but if you are not 100% behind hormones and surgery you are going to be pounced on.

Even if I consider her response "ignorant," I do not see her in the category that I do others of malignant intent. Even the Dalai Llama had some ignorance about certain things. No one is perfect. However, I go by the rule of psychology: "What was the intent?" I don't see her as malicious or evil. Frankly, I have to give most of people a "pass," because I hear (benign) racist remarks fairly frequently. That's different than "malignant" racist remarks. Again, intent.

Right, even political religious leaders, who are closer to absloute perfection.

So casual, mindless murder is not as bad as malignant, ill-willed murder.

I always said that ignorance is closer to the blandness of pure evil, because malice at least has some awareness about what it does, to whom and why, and gives you better chances of guarding yourself against it, but being "ignored" is, by pure logic, closer to annihilation than anything else.
