  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Why are baristas/people who work in retail so douchey?

You have no idea what the customer before you did and what effect it had on the worker.

Good point, but there's no excuse for taking it out on the next customer. Guys in retail are annoyed when customers get pissy, and yet the retail guy has no idea what might have happened to the customer five minutes ago to make him all pissy.

Ideally, we should all leave all our baggage behind and treat each retail worker with the merit s/he earns or deserves during the interaction; likewise the worker with his/her customers. I did a stint in waitering and another longer stint in retail - we all have shit days, but if you're going to be the face of a company then that face needs to suck it up and get on with the job. Otherwise, get out of retail.

No, I think you'll find that it really actually is that simple.

I wasn't talking about casinos, and I don't go to those anyway. I was referring to everyday spots like Starbucks or clothing stores.

w/ Ram. They are grumpy because they have to deal with the general public.

Go to a locally-owned coffee shop or retail shop, and you'll probably have a better chance of getting a non-douche.

There was a really cute (alas, straight) barista in a local coffee shop downtown. What a great guy.

P.S.--That was a great vid, Quanchi!
