Why are gays into sports?

I grew up watching sports with my dad, playing basketball in the yard with the neighbors, and went to a school where the basketball teams were in the State tourney every year. School spirit was high, everyone went to the games and it was a place to make many new friends who had some of the same interests. The friends I made in high school going to sporting events are friend today many years later. I still enjoy college basketball, high school bball, racing, football and baseball. Being gay has nothing to do with that.

Yeah, this.

I understand the perception of sports being homphobic but as opposed to politics, that is changing.

And I'm happy for that because sports are awesome. I am pretty closeted, but have straight friends that are aware of my sexuality and I am the biggest sports fan of all of them. I get pissed-off by how out-of-touch they are with football, soccer, in-particular.

I love these games and if you want perceived homophobia to stop in these spaces you have to represent and show how right you are; it's why you (should) talk to Republicans.

If Leo Messi came by my door looking for sex, I'd fuck him in a heartbeat.

Troll post? I'm not an idiot, I see it, and I really don't care.

There's homophobia EVERYWHERE. Sports are just like the workplace, the church, politics, and just about every aspect of life. But who fucking cares?
I love pro football, MMA, and wrestling. It's not about who fucks who but the thrill of the fight.

My fellow Vikes fans embrace me because of my knowledge of the team and the sport of football itself. Never got any shit about faggotry.

Sure, football fans like to throw gay slurs around from time to time but I grew up around and mostly associate with straight men, so I do it also. It's like Jessie J sang, "I can do it like a brother, do it like a dude."

And this is absolutely spot-on. Well-done amigo

Gays are into sports for the same reason straight people are. A source of entertainment. True, there is a lot of homophobia in sports, but that tends to mirror society in general. Very few American male athletes come out for fear of having their careers shattered. The NFL's treatment of openly gay Michael Sam was not encouraging. And some areas of the country are also more conservative and very scary to be a gay athlete. I know.

Let's see. I can run, lift weights, catch a football, hit a baseball, and slap a guy's ass.

sports is completely homophobic and you would have to be an idiot not to see that.

just saying.

I disagree
Sports are less homophobic than the general public.
Also sports do not have ideology like religion.

Over here, sports CEOs welcome everyone and no discrimination at all.

Sport is not subject to sexuality.
Some sports are better at accepting homosexuality better than others, but it will get better over time.
But, as long as there are human beings, discrimination will exist.

I'm not into sports at all. I will say I do have a thing for Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javy Baez, David Ross, and John Lester but thats it, I don't actually follow it just like looking at the yummy eye candy.

There's a peer reviewed reviewed article about how gays, formerly discriminated against in the playground, reclaim that space of masculinity by becoming accomplished bodybuilders later on.

I find sports are an important part of being a guy and to excel in sports is, to some, to become a better guy.

Besides, jocks are hot.

And well, who wouldn't like all the benefits excelling at a sport bring with that?

The sports I watch and most like are basketball and football and the primary attraction for me has always been strategy. I love how the game is played and the strategy involved and after that it is the talent.

I also like the Olympics because I love to see the individual excel in their respective sports and compete not only against other people but against themselves. It is a beautiful thing to watch an athlete who has dedicated themselves to an endeavor rise to their highest potential.

I am not sure if that has anything to do with being gay but since I am gay that is my personal reason and why this gay man is into those sports.

Probably like looking at all those men's asses :p

totally. strategy is a big reason Im going to go back to wrestling soon. you know, to devise and apply a strategy, anticipating the opponents movements... you gain skills which move over to business or politics or whatever area youre in.

and the second thing is, imho, true too because as human being we are (some would argue) hardwired to like beauty and seeing an athlete excele is to see beauty.

That is a good point about the skills leading to other things. I know alot of athletes go on to have successful careers in business. The skill set really is valuable - being able to see the whole picture - follow and lead - function as an individual and as a member of a team.

To be interested in sport has absolutely nothing to do with athletes looks and bodies.
If you watch mainly on their bodies, you are clearly not interested in sports.

I disagree. Part of finding an athlete's body erotic means finding the way they got their body that way (sports) full of virtue. There is a book, though I think it is a bit advanced for the average thinker to start with. It is called Eros and Greek Athletics. In Ancient Greece, the god of gay sex and love was also the god of the gymnasium.
