I can't discuss the cause, but I can describe some of the effects. (anecdotal)

Asians put a very high priority on education - linked to a strong family life. Some American students at Univ. of Cal. Berkely (and others) were complaining that Asians are "shifting the curve" making it more difficult for Americans to succeed. In my community, high school Asians spend lots of time in public libraries and while there, they are actually studying. The fact that Asians are immigrants is an asset to American society. Also, they ignore stupid, racist attitudes of some Americans. :D
