these are obviously guys who spend too much time on services like grindr.

so the userbase from their point of view is divided into three groups:

a) guys that they still would love to fuck
b) guys that they already fucked
c) guys that they don't want to fuck.

with a being the smallest group and c the biggest. the problem is that with every fuck group b still grows smaller. so they stick around desperately hoping for some fresh meat - because most of group a already know that they have been around the block for a few years and won't touch them with the proverbial 10 foot pole. so they got rejected a couple of times - but meanwhile people from group c are trying to hit on them. this happens a few time until their frustration shows on the outside, and thus profiles like those are born.

it's really just bitter frustration. imagine what a let down it must be for them if they open up another message and it's not one from groub b. again.


But btw .. I don't consider statements like "no hookups" or "no pic no chat" to be douchy.

I disagree. I think it's a cruel message. He's basically trying to intimidate people with low self-esteem by reinforcing it with the false notion that he's out of their league, and rubbing it in their faces. Sure, it weeds them out, but it also fucks with their heads. Besides, if they don't have the confidence to approach him, they wouldn't in the first place, so saying that isn't even necessary. It's a classic case of putting others down to make yourself look good in comparison, and to me, that behavior makes him unattractive.

And respectfully, I must disagree. Each person is responsible for his or her own self esteem--what value you find in yourself depends on your own opinion, not another's. And actually, people who don't find themselves "worthy" do indeed contact others on services like Grindr in order to throw compliments that person's way but don't believe in themselves enough to back it up.

I'm always surprised whenever a person contacts me through the app and acts like I'm the best thing since sliced bread, but then when I try to get to know him he shrinks away (and I'm certainly not as good as sliced bread). I have met guys through Grindr who do relate stories of men fawning all over them for their looks, but then back away from any kind of substantial interaction. I'll admit I've found guys so attractive in the past I wouldn't send them a message because I just assumed I'd not be "in their league" so to speak. When I realized what that said about my own feelings of worth, I started interacting more with those kinds of people.

The ones who really end up being douches are the ones who say they are really on there just to make friends, and then they don't give someone the time of day if that person isn't the type of friend they would eventually want to sleep with. At least Aric puts the message out there right up front--if you feel you can't hang, why even bother trying?

I get the biggest giggle out of these sorts of things. But I have a question:

Are there any people on Grindr who are not douchebags? Is Grindr one of those deep and meaningful relationship type things? Or is it just a more animated chat version of all the other skeezy hookup sites out there, filled to the brim with douchebags of every description?

People who are beautiful inside and out don't need skeezy hookup sites. People who are beautiful inside and meh outside don't need skeezy hookup sites, either. I guess what I'm saying is that inner beauty and skeezy hookup sites are mutually exclusive concepts. Looking for inner beauty on Grindr is about as useful as looking for Chanel scarves at Wal-Mart.

(Not that I'm against hookups...it's the skeez to which I object.)

Most beautiful people? Seriously? Only 1 of those guys is remotely close to objectively "beautiful" and the others very from average to downright unattractive. imo.

And you probably get to be a prick when strangers start calling a in-the-mirror glamor shot of your double chin "beautiful". Just saying. People have the sense of importance you give them.

i just read these as preemptively insecure. Guys that have been turned down often enough to want to "strike first" so others see something there ('Asians reave me arone'= "omg all the asian guys on here want me but can't have me, no I'm a catch; really!").

We're all responsible for our own happiness. There are Jubbers on here whose continual cry is "woe is me" regardless of how much other Jubbers point out their attractions and successes. If everybody else pepping you up can't make you feel good, surely then by inference only you can do it to yourself.
