I've been watching Queer as folk online, and I've never seen the series before. So I've seen a few episodes, and I am shocked at how Lily White everything is. I don't even see any latino or asian people in this show, and all the characters are bemoaning about the gay lifestyle, and it's like, what about the lifestyles of gays of color??? I don't want this to turn into a drama thread...but anyone else feel the same way??

Apparently, only white people live in Pittsburgh

at least that's what I learned from the show... imagine my surprise when I actually went there

And the UK original version was much earthier, and more realistic - from my perspective - than the cheesy, and hyper glossy American version. Image triumphing over substance.

Never saw the American version.

What was good about the original series is the 'slice of life' it offered.
It showed realistic people with realistic problems, which rarely ever happens on television.

The black character had a very good dramatic reason to be in the series, and was also treated in a decidedly politically incorrect manner.

There is a black version of QAF called Noah's Arc. Has anyone checked that out? I'm sure there are only few whites or no whites at all.

An accurate observation.

I watched the two versions over the satellite via GayTV Italia and can confirm that my appreciation of the black character in the UK version was both compelling, and highly relevant to the needs of the series.

Because it is a piece of fiction designed to entertain and not a documentary treatise designed to appease particular members of the audience.

Some other audience members were furious that it made Pittsburgh appear to be an unpleasant snowy place. Others were annoyed that most of the characters were fruity, inconsistent or n0n-credible.

Justin's friend Daphne is African-American. (Or should I say African-Canadian?)

I agree the American version of "Queer as Folk" should have featured one of the Guys in an Interracial relationship for 1 or 2 episodes.....The show ROCKED regardless...

What I LOVED about HBO's "6 Feet under" is that you forgot that David & Keith were in an interracial relationship..They Loved each other the first time they laid eyes on each other..They fought & made-up like crazy......I was rooting for them to stay together through-out the series...

I could not get into "Will & Grace"...Good actors, some funny scenes it just didnt cut it for me...

LOGO's "Noah's Arc"...I watched bits and pieces here and there but the show didnt do it for me....The show is suppose to be coming back..I'll check it out and see if its been revamped..

"The L Word"...Didnt see one episode.....[-X.............

I like Noah's Arc. There were few whites on that show and no one dated anyone white for a long period of time, if at all.

Not everything is perfect the first time around. I think there needs to be another show like QaF that's a bit more modern, with some more depth.

Even though it's mostly about lesbians, The L Word was an amazing series. It captured queer life - and everything it encompasses - in a way Queer as Folk kind of missed in parts.
