Why can't the nation see this obvious pattern? From D to R to D to R...

Bush Senior handed Clinton a nation in crisis. Clinton turned a huge deficit into a surplus. Clinton handed GWB a prosperous nation with economic boom and surplus. Bush turned that surplus into a huge deficit and a nation in deep recession. Bush handed Obama a country in shambles. Obama slowly turned it around and gave us the longest economic growth in history. Obama handed Trump a booming economy. 4 years later, Trump turned a nation in shambles over to Biden.

I mean, am I missing something here? Is there some kind of mental block that prevents the rest of the country from seeing this obvious historical pattern?

Seems to me that if you want the economy to do well, vote for a Dem president. If you want to see a recession, vote for a Rep president.

Yes, taxes, guns, GOD, and abortion. End of story. +

A lot of republican voters vote against their own best interests; and will continue to do so because of the four words I mentioned above. Hence why some of the poorest states are some of the reddest on the map. Dems fix it and the republicans fuck it all up again. Like you said been that way since at least 92'! The dems raise taxes, the minimum wage, healthcare; get the economy working and then get wiped out in the next midterm by voters who want divided government. ](*,)

Maybe Clinton and Obama left the nation better off in some metrics. But a lot of the improvement--certainly with Obama--never made it to a lot of people. A lot of people were hurting. They saw the fact the Democrats were seemingly more worried about Wall Street than them. And so they reacted. Perhaps they were voting against their interests--I certainly have felt that, although I also have started understanding the argument that the Clinton and Obama were actually the "worse evil" because policy that gets screamed about when it's a Republican gets approved when it's a Democrat. Like social safety net cuts. NAFTA. And more.

It's understandable to me how someone gets so frustrated they decide what I have I got to loose? when they go for reality TV show star buffoon when he runs for president.

There is no telling what will happen this time. But I what predict, based on past observation: economic recovery from COVID will favor Wall Street and major corporations. People who are struggling will get little to nothing. And Republicans start winning big, starting in 2022, because we have a system of viable two choices, and when you are pissed off with Choice A, you only have one other viable choice.

^You are more than likely correct. Biden has already lied about Stimulus checks. Not really surprised by this, honestly.

He said he was going to take COVID more seriously, yet he was at the Inauguration yesterday with no mask on touching and hugging people. You will see little said about it because that is just how it goes. Democrats put a smile on their face when they do shit like this and liberals eat it up.

Curiously in the UK we have the opposite
The socialists spend spend spend and leave the country is huge debt while the conservatives come in and mop up the mess
Then the cycle repeats ad infinitum
It seems that every democratic country has similar problems as each ideology pulls against the other

I know more than a few people who don't vote because they look at the candidates and see that no matter who they vote for they'd be voting against their interests.

It's past time to do away with congressional districts and elect Representatives to Congress by statewide vote by party -- looking at the numbers from just California, the first election done that way would send members to the House representing five or possibly six different political parties. Of course the current limit on the number of seats in the House would still work against smaller parties, in large states the result of such a move would be the break-up of both major parties -- and the splintering of the Republicans would be the worst as their religious and libertarian branches would form new parties, leaving the core of actual republicans. But I think the major result would be politics shifting to the center, and things most Americans want (such as a Canada-like national health system) could get passed.

This post is a very nice example of the country's problem: opponents aren't just opponents, they have to be insulted and demonized!
