Why Did Shakira's New Album Perform So Badly in the States?

well, she released the album in N. A a month after it was released everywhere else, by the time it got released here everyone had obtained a copy illegally or not... that was not a smart move. as much as I enjoy the album, artistically she is losing what made her unique in the first place, the attempt to capitalize on a Timbaland production just made her look desperate. I'm still looking forward to her spanish album next year.

Easy answer is:

* They debuted it in a really heavy release week (Susan Boyle, Adam Lambert, Lady Gaga).
* The singles haven't really performed here.
* Not much of a promotional push.
* And personally? I don't find the music very compelling.

I think she failed because she's losing herself to the industry. She's less and less the Shakira from the Unplugged days where she used to really be a standout performer. She's seems like she's trying to hard now.

This. Album sales are down 14% overall far this year. Postponing her album didn't help. She's not connecting with the masses.

Shakira's new album "She Wolf" debuted at number 15 on the album charts, the lowest debut of her career. It only sold 89,000 copies.

It's hardly a major disaster for her, since she's big all around the world. The album has sold 1.5 million copies worldwide before it was even released in the States.

I thought it was pretty good. A great pop record, one of my favorites of the year. I like that Shakira's a genius (IQ = 140), her lyrics are really out there, and she genuinely helps and cares for charities in her native Columbia. Plus she writes and produces all her own stuff, unlike a lot of pop stars out there.

YOU FUCKING ASS.
I take it back. Now I actually like the cd. I just had to look at the lyrics. I actually am ashamed that I complained bout her accent. WTF did I expect. Its like disappointment if Britney sighs on songs. LOL.
Ive gotta say Im really addicted to the cd...these songs in particular...

1. Men In This Town
2. Spy
3. MON AMOUR............so awesome. I can see the video now
4. Did It Again
5. her other single was the reason I bought it but does not compare to these songs.

I honestly think youll like them as much as I did if you look at the lyrics. KICK ASS

OMG UGLY BETTY!!!

I have never heard someone sing through their nose as badly as shakira does. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
She wolf was a huge mistake. I thought it was a mad tv skit the first time I saw it.

She's sold her soul to become a major pop star in the US. Too bad I used to think she was great years ago.

I sorta agree. She, like Jewel, started out with real talent, with real lyrics that actually meant something. But now, their songs are marginal and their outfits are getting sluttier by the record. Now, i'm not saying their songs are horrible... but their "classic" stuff has more substance.
