Why do actors in gay movies look like they just walk out of a porn set?

I just watched 200 American on Netflix. I was confused whether the acting was that bad or it's just a soft-core porn. :P

Because a high percentage of gay men are sex-obsessed, and if a movie doesn't have something to titillate them, even a little, they will lose interest.

I actually didn't mind 200 American and found it better than I thought it was going to be. I just wish the guys had different hair because some of them looked too similar.

It was so refeshing when they cast Twilight with those hideous mofos like Robert Patinson and Taylor Lautner. You know because with those grotesque bodies and faces, guys like that can never get laid.

Because a chunk of what is labeled "gay movies" is pretty poorly made stuff, that is marketed more for good looking shirtless guys than good story?

Don't make this about me. This is about you, and your fan club president crashing people's threads with your "it's not just gay guys...wah wah wahhhhh" crap over and over again. Shut the hell up.

Ah. So you're upset that Stacy and I have a larf at the same things?

got it.

Are there any other commands, your highness?

Did you also want to have us clear any of our posts with you or your staff before publishing them? I certainly don't want to ruffle the royal feathers.

Cause it 's all guys' holy duty to look like porn.

I kinda agree with this... if it's going to draw you in as a gay-themed movie, I think part of the appeal is "hey, look at these hot guys who will probably be shirtless at some point"

otherwise, I don't think many people have that much of an interest in "gay" movies.

Couldn't the same things be said of straight movies where the women go through an hour of make up and wear clothing that shows off their curves all the while preparing for that 1-3 minutes of heavy petting with the straight guy?

For most straight movies, that is not the draw. I go see a movie b/c it's going to be good, it's going to be entertaining.

Movies that try to draw an audience based solely on a woman's sex appeal rarely do well.

For gay movies, it's hard to find any where the sex appeal of the males is not a HUGE selling point.

I'm bisexual and I will admit, I LOVE watching Angelina Jolie. However, I would NEVER watch a movie just based off of hers or any woman's sex appeal. There has to be a lot more than that.

Please tell me 5 movies where the women does not go through an hour (or more) of make up to enhance her beauty.

Beauty sells as does sex. It sells in gay and straight movies.

The difference is gay men go for Mr. 6 pack with model looks and straight men go for Ms. Flawless Skin with right bra with jeans that accentuate her ass.

Unless your telling me that straight men love the natural beauty of women with no make up and would pay to see women with no make up in movies?

I thought actors were generally more attractive than the everyday person.

Here are some gay themed movies were some of the characters are less than attractive.

Torch Song Trilogy
Philadelphia
A Single Man
The Boys In The Band

Straight men go to movies for different reasons... for action, for a quality film, for a good laugh. Women and men wear make up in movies.. however the main draw of films is not to see hot women.

For the most part, correct. If I'm not mistaken, hot women were a substantial draw during the Golden Age of cinema, but not so much now. With the widespread availability of pornography, who needs to go to movies to get stimulated?

This seems to not be the case for gay movies.

Right. Just because mainstream culture can be exceedingly superficial, that does not mean that gay culture isn't even more superficial.

I think because movies with gay characters and themes are characterized as gay first and whatever other genre second (ie: gay horror) there is more of a focus at getting the gay male demographic with cute guys in generally low budget movies.

Straight movies are the norm and therefore have more money to work with and more opportunities to explore the genre (ie: horror) first and not have to contend with the label of straight being a stumbling block.

I only chose horror because I like horror movies, you could replace it with any genre really.

Perhaps horror was not the best choice actually, but I don't feel like changing the post. I know there's a lot of T+A in a lot of horror movies.

Having never had in interest in precious, was it only Mariah Carey that ditched the make up? Because that's all I remember hearing.

Or was it the whole cast?

Hmm. I might be confused by the OP's statements, but I thought the issue isn't whether or not the actors in gay movies (I think, specifically the low-budget ones) are attractive, but that they are attractive in a um, how should I put it, c-list sort of way.

NP, huntneo. Thanks for the compliment!

In relation to Precious, I'm pretty sure it was MC only, but I never actually saw the movie.

Girlesque, you raise a good point. I think you did hit at the heart of the original post. However, issues of attractiveness arose once we started talking about gay movies vs. straight movies, I think.

Huntneo expressed it well by saying that the attractiveness was more of a generic nature. It becomes more nuanced when we think about the way Zac Efron and Brad Pitt fit into the equation and if we compare those mainstream stars attractiveness to those of porn stars.

I believe it was both Mariah and Mo'Nique, but don't quote me on that, it could have very well been the entire cast.

Lets just say... Mariah needed to shave her face.

Thank God I avoided that movie then

Anyway, even if it was the whole cast, then that's more that I honestly did not expect where the women ditched the make up.

But in any case, straight movies, a lot of them, feature men and women that use make up or some other means to enhance their face and body.

So in my opinion, gay and straight movies usually appeal to the shallow part of humans.

Straight movies may have the appeal to a broader range where they focus on other parts. Like in Precious.

So I don't see how gay movies have a porn feel, when a lot of straight movies have that heavy petting scene that feels a little like porn.
