Um.. Monster is a gay movie. The lead character is a lesbian.

There's a LOT of gay subtext in Fight Club and The Hours. Arguably Million Dollar Baby, too.

For the record, I've seen a LOT of gay movies where the actors were no better looking than the actors in straight movies.

Latter Days had reasonably attractive guys in the two romantic leads... but not porn star hot.

I Think I Do had again... people of average looks... same with Kiss Me, Guido, The Broken Hearts Club, Dorain Blues even Ang Lee's "other" gay movie The Wedding Banquet had reasonably attractive but not porn-star hot actors.

I'm not sure which gay movies the OP is talking about.

Although it sure did give the more "bitter" of our local bunch something else to use as ammunition as they went on about how superficial the gay community is while giving straight people a pass.

Speaking of Eating Out, if I remember correctly the main character in Eating Out 3 (Daniel Skelton) was a skinny non muscular guy who in the end got the hunky gay guy not because of his 6 pack but because of who he was on the inside.

That movie series had a plot? Imagine that.

I just thought it was "Marco Dapper is naked and is that his penis?!?!".

I actually enjoyed the 3rd one somewhat compared to the other 2 where the plot was a straight guy or confused bisexual.

Though I laughed when the ex gay leader ended up ejaculating all over his mom while getting fucked in the portable toilet in the 2nd one. Funny yet creepy and disturbing at the same time.

If that's all I wanted to see in gay-oriented films, I'd just watch soap operas. The storyline is important to me.

That's not relevant. He was an actor in a gay-themed movie. Frankly, I don't care what the rest of the cast looked like. I've never seen the film. I just know of Nick from The Young And The Restless. Even at the age of twelve, I had good taste in men.

The point is that he's the only remotely attractive character in the movie. And that's kinda the point of it. And the Op was asking why people in gay themed movies were always porn star hot... and in Kiss Me Guido.. they're not. They're really not.

Just the guido.

I think more actors in gay movies are in the movies to be sexually enticing because a larger part of the audience wants to see more erotic movies.

It's also true that not every gay movie has porn star hot guys. But then neither does every straight movie.

Wow... one teen movie. Of course teens go see movies with hot starring roles. However, those movies aren't taken seriously and are lambasted for their poor acting and minuscule appeal.

And... independent gay movies... are different how?

Independent gay movies don't generally have huge exposure and a built in fan base. They are also catering to an older audience than teen movies, generally and a primarily male audience.

The bad acting and miniscule audience is more of a function of it being independent and gay and thus having less resources with which to work, as compared to a teen movie.
