American people love people with talents. So that's why a lot of people love Christina Aguilera, because she has written most of her songs, and also artists like U2, Justin...

And one of my American teachers told me that's exactly why Westlife can't get famous in the US(She had been in China for a while, she knew Westlife, for they're famous all over Asia.), they always sing old songs, and seldom write new songs themselves.

Well that's true. But that's what pop singers are, you shouldn't expect them too much from them. Besides at least, Westlife's vocals are amazing, much better than Justin Timberlake. (Though he's got talent, but his voice sounds like a duck sometimes.)

And the greatest thing about Westlife is, they make old songs much more famous again than when they were originally performed. (For example, in Asia, only a few people know the song "You Raise Me Up", but after Westlife's re-performance, it soon became a hit, and a lof of my friends who don't listen to western music too much though it was a new song, till I told them there are a number of versions, and another most famous one is performed by Josh Groban, whom most of them don't know.) Making songs popular, that what pop singers should do. So Westlife has done a great job.

So I never figure out why Americans wouldn't accept them.

Americans prefer less mushy stuff. Perhaps they are still recovering from the Air Supply's hits.

Perhaps we aren't as big a fan of covers/remakes if that's what much of their success is from? There are dozens of examples of artists who are huge in the UK and barely scratch the surface here and vice versa.

Personally I love Westlife, its just fun music.

Effortless Pro is right. The boy band craze wore itself out ended a few years ago.

I must agree. When Westlife tried to make it the the US, Americans were already getting tired of Boybands, so there was little if any room from.

Many people think boy bands are gay. Well the straight people i know say that. Anyway, its just a stereotype and it goes like this: guys are not suppose to sing to earn their living, they are suppose to do hard labour to earn cash because after all we have the strength, muscles for that. Singin is too easy.

Americans also dont really like it when they aren't "discovering" a group, or if they've been successful elsewhere for a few years, they probably wont make it really big in America, eg. Oasis. (There are exceptions to this, of course)

Plus, crucially, Westlife are crap.

I've never really understood why Americans don't like most of the music that's popular overseas (in particular music popular in the UK). I'm a Yankee but I love listening to stuff that's big over there. I wish all the House music and DJ sounds were popular over here; it would be great to listen to dance/electronica/euro pop on the radio here. Thank god for Youtube & myspace!

I can only speak for myself, but... I have nothing against them, I've just never heard of them! Could it be a marketing problem?

There's heaps and heaps of great music that doesn't seem to do anything in America but them ignoring Westlife is pretty clever of them.

Because my dear westlife are a pile of shit.

It's like a mass suicide for the ear lobes any one of their songs honestly.

Americans actually prefer on the most part guitar based bands that have real talent. Westlife couldn't be further away from that ideal.

I love me some Westlife like its going outta style. I have a good amount of their cds, the DVD with all the videos on it and yeah. I've been a fan since "Swear It All Again" i havent stopped loving whether there is 4 or 5 members in the group. They can "Bop Bop Baby" with me any day of the week.

That is so not true. Popular music in America is, for the most part, sythesized, over produced, and talentless. That is why American Idol has become such a phenomenon. I find this to be the case in almost any genre. The stuff thats actually intelligent and good isn't popular, and the stuff that's crap is popular.

tries to even figure out the last time i even listened to the radio or watched MTV when they decide to play videos. Not those lame ass shows. I just find something in Westlife's music that i really enjoy...maybe its the fact that don't need half-ass naked chicks that i wanna run over with truck. Flapping their asses everywhere. Or maybe its just the fact that i enjoy their songs and like what i'm hearing.

Well I'm British and I wish they'd split up. They do nothing to help the face of British music with all their cover versions. At the end of the day they're just another manufactured pop band and have nothing good to contribute to the world of music.

To answer your original question? Because they are shit.

Five boys singing cover songs that any number of boys all around the world could sing just as well.

I don't know American people's definition of music lover. But in China, if you only listen to a lot of music, you're still not a music lover. Chinese people love singing a lot. And that's why pop music is the most welcomed among all the music.

So Chinese people love to listen to songs that are performed by the same-sex singer.

I love Christina's songs, but her songs are all in a high key, and most of them will be very awful if they are performed in a low key by a guy's vocal.

And that's why a lot of Chinese guys, who love western music love Westlife, both gay and straight.
