Why do certain black people say it is impossible for them to be racist?

There are a lot of Social Justice Warriors on youtube who pretty much say everything and anything about white people (crackers, neanderthals, cave Becky) and are very open about the fact that they hate white people but then claim "we are not racist because our hate for white people doesn't effect them".

I understand where they are coming from as far as the history of slavery and white supremacy but I don't see how all the outspoken hate is helping anything, and I think the claim "it's impossible for us to be racist" is ridiculous.


I can post videos of this as an example.

They're just playing the race card, plain and simple.

So in order for someone to be considered racist, their hate for a certain race has to have a signifiant effect on them as a whole?
 
There's a difference between 'casual' racism and capitol R racism/institutionalized racism. The first is hum ho and can be directed toward any person or group based on race, while the second needs the addition of institutional power. If you use google you can find examples of the differences - my brain is currently mostly dead, sorry.

Racism has been redefined in the vernacular as just "anyone made me feel bad about my group or teased me."

Racism is enacted by a society. Not by an individual. It's systemic.

Here is the definition:

the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.
prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.


To me, for a group of people to claim that it's "impossible" for them to be racist, it sounds like an excuse to say "we are free to hate all we want and there is nothing wrong with us doing it."

Yes and according to that definition, which is worthless, everyone is equally racist or equally vulnerable to the label of racist against every group that isn't their own because, after all, any antagonism you direct against anyone of a different race could be motivated by your secret belief that your race is better, or your secret biases. And you have absolutely no ability to prove otherwise. Hence the situation today where white people often sincerely believe they are "as much" the victims of everyday racism as any more widely discriminated-against minority group.

When someone actually discussing sociological racism is writing or speaking about it, they aren't talking about individual prejudices that cause person A to mildly dislike person B. People can certainly hold racist attitudes but unless you can get the courts and the police and the Congressmen to all create and enact and enforce systems in society that empower your ability to act out those racist attitudes in a significant way (or the existing laws and policies and practices already default to supporting them), you cannot singlehandedly "enact racism" against someone.

When I was a young man, a couple of black guys once called me a 'cracker.'

I didn't even know what a cracker was.

Now that I do, I believe they may have been right. :lol:

So, in short, they are not social justice warriors, as they know nothing of the first two terms then?

Right. So beside being mislabeled, they're morons.

There is no doubt an institutional form of racism in the USA, the majority by virtue of being the majority and by not ending this racism
are by default racist (capital R).
Then their is a form of racial bigotry ( Bigotry is a state of mind where a person obstinately, irrationally, unfairly or intolerantly dislikes other people, ideas, etc.[1][2] Some examples include personal beliefs, race, religion, national origin, gender, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or other group characteristics.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigotry) that anyone be they in the majority or minority can dabble in.
This bigotry is something we as individuals have a responsibility to deal with if it is prevalent in our lives while we work against the Racism in our society.

Is something wrong with me in that I only managed to listen to 22 seconds before I had to switch it off?

Does this mean I am racist also? Perhaps I should rethink my gut reactions to effeminate young gay guys "performing" on YouTube videos.
