There was a special about fentanyl on Nightline.

Why would drug dealers or the Cartel use fentanyl? They are killing their customers. Why would they do that?

Drug discussion is not forbidden in the CofC.

Fentanyl is used because it is compact, for the exact same reason artificial sweeteners are used to replace sugar in commercial sweets. They can be used to displace the heavy sugar and enable raw goods to be made in the lab, not shipped from sugar crops to refineries to food manufacturing facilities. Artificial sweeteners are hundreds of times sweeter, so do more with less.

Ditto for Fentanyl. Smaller size is easier to conceal and carry.

Cheap thrills?

If people die from drugs from one dealer some users will buy them because it proves they're potent. So more customers.

Also reasonably addictive so customers keep coming back.

Some drug users say dealers kill some users with poisoned drugs on purpose.

Not sure what heroin is like in the US, but here in Europe it's so weak people barely even get addicted to it anymore. Fentanyl would 'help'.

Around here, with incoming elections, the "shock" is that fentanyl comes from China and Mexico.

But there's plenty made right in the USA.

I do pharmacy inventory for a living. Every pharmacy seems to have fentanyl. I can tell which pharmacies have many older patients by how many boxes of fentanyl patches are in the safe.

I really think we'd make progress toward ending the opioid crisis by ending Medicare coverage for opioids. But nobody but me would dare deny Grandma her medications.

Not an American, but watch a lot of Soft White Underbelly and Vice documentaries on youtube. There are plenty of folks now who simply purposefully buy fentanyl from their dealers.

The latest thing is fentanyl with benzos in it, which is supposedly more dangerous still.
