I find it outrageous how some gay people are quick to blame their gay brothers and sisters for lack of acceptance, when they are doing nothing more than expressing themselves.

Also, regarding ideologies related to fiscal measures, all I can ask is: is it worth voting a party whose economic program is in concordance with your ideology, but fights to refuse to acknowledge your rights as a citizen?

Well you see that is the point Jasun is trying to make I think. Not all gay people are like that but the hetero's see things like that and lump us all together. While I always tend to lean left of center, I do have to admit that I think that certain public actions of the gay community tend to hinder our cause.

Actions like those seen in a thread in the gay porn forum (naked street parade or whatever) really support the stereotype that all gay men are promiscuous sex-crazed deviants with little motivation in life outside of their next fuck.

While I'm all for diversity and gay pride, I think there's a point where we really need to understand that in order to gain the rights we so desire, we must bring home the idea that outside of the fact that who we sleep with or who we are in a committed relationship with is a person of the same gender, we really AREN'T that different from any heterosexual individual. Approaching their arguments as mature, responsible adults instead of the aforementioned deviants they claim that we are (and that such photographic evidence lends quite a bit of credence to) would increase our credibility more than any amount of picketing, pride marches, and celebrations of diversity could hope to accomplish.

When they bring up the arguement as to why gays don't deserve marriage, these 2 numbnuts just don't help our cause. I was going to go on a long rant, but I've said things or here before about pointing the fingers at gay people. But any 'this is why gays have trouble getting rights' comment is idiotic.

We are people, we're treated different for something we have no control over, but we're the problem? We act like any 'normal' person would, but we're the problem?

Every points their fingers at Gay Pride Parades like it's a problem, but Mardi gras is ok (as already pointed out in this thread). Even though a few years ago at the Philadelphia one a huge riot turned out afterwards. But no one points their fingers and suggest that straight people should tone it down at their parades.

I'm pretty sure the groups that have any sort of real influence in the fight against gay marriage (e.g. Christian Right, LDS...any conservative or fundamentalist church which has tax exempt status yet donates like mad to these sort of causes) are fairly outspoken on any sort of promiscuous behavior in general. They just use homosexuality + promiscuity as a double whammy.

The individuals who speak out against us, but are promiscuous themselves, are simply hypocrites. But they alone rarely have the kind of influence needed to sway a vote.

Great thoughts. I think many of us do work on a local and state level (I volunteer teaching).

I think the country is much more aware of our financial contributions to society---many of my friends (straight and gay) have gay-friendly businesses.
So many people have worked so hard to secure our freedoms. We have to let people know who we are.
