Why do people do drugs?

And I mean illegal ones.
I know alcohol and tobacco kill more people, but why do drugs that are illegal?

I once tried cannabis cos i wanted to know what it felt like- made me feel sicker than I want to again.

I dont understand why you would do ecstacy of coke or heroin.

So give me a clue.
 
Low self esteem? Escapism from reality? Self destructive tendencies?

Or it could be a thrill from doing something wrong and illegal.

I guess the same could be said about sex.

Why do some HIV negative guys bareback? Or have sex in places they could get caught? Must be the thrill of the risk.
 
Curiosity. When you're told by your parents something is WRONG WRONG WRONG, then you're immeadiate thought as a teenager is to question what your parents tell you isn't it? Wondering what could be so bad about about something your parents know nothing about, only what they've heard on the news.

Another point is peer pressure. It's hard enough for kids to fit in with their classmates these days, peer pressure to be the same as the others and to do the same as the others is quite a powerful thing. From alcohol after school, to smoking after class, drugs can be the next stepping stone in that chain.

Peer pressure can be felt as you get older too. You're adult friends might want to go drinking all night and if you feel like you want to go home you don't want to be thought of as a kill joy or a bore so you stay out with them. No one can make someone do what they don't want to do but peer pressure can be a big factor in people taking drugs.
 
peer pressure isn't what got me smoking weed, it was smelling it in the air at a Queen concert back in 1976, loved the smell of it, and tried it a few years later and loved it.

no low self esteem here, no escaping from reality, and defiantely not desctructive, just sitting back enjoying what nature put in our soil!

reminds me, I have to go twist a couple up for Pridefest today....hehehe
 
yea weed is illegal, and I'm not going to get in the argument that it shouldn't.

the drug is virtually harmless, and can make you feel good, help you relax, and just take the edge off. It's the same as drinking and smoking, just that one isn't "allowed" by our governments.

PS I'd much rather be on the road with a guy high on marijuana than drunk from alcohol.
 
People do illegal drugs for the same reason they do legal drugs.... to feel better.
 
its different for everybody. i used to love weed, but now i hate it, whats so good about not feeling your toes. saying that though, i love extacy and i love cocain. i dont do either of them often if at all. but on a special nights, like say new years or your birthday im not going to pass them up. everything is good in moderation. obviously there is a massive stigma on drugs. say someone eats too much junk food, people say" how can they eat so much, it isnt good for them". its the same with drugs, you hear stories of people overdosing, losing the plot. thats because they do the stuff way too much. ive had nothing but peaceful times and VERY comfortable times on drugs. only becuase i will never take a new drug without someone with me, who is sobre, and i will never take any drug without being in the company of someone i trust WITH MY LIFE. be safe, know what your taking, and do it in moderation. dont get suckered in by peer pressure, if you decide to take drugs, just to try them, do it because you want to. not because someone else wants you to. and whatever you do remember, they are addictive, try as hard as you darn well can to NEVER get addicted, mentally or physically to drugs.

For the buzz..
The euphoric feeling; So indescribable. It's as if you're flying in the Sky and nothing can get in your way. It's different for everyone; Yet so similar..
Seeing things which aren't there in reality..
To feel on top of the world.. (More so if you feel that way anyway)
Forget your troubles for a little while (But not hiding or running from the truth)..
Have some of the funniest moments in memory..
Being happier with everyone around you; A boost of Fun times with Fun people..

I don't know.. Whatever I say/feel, isn't going to change or reason with anyone..
It's different for everybody.

It was fun for me. Now I've stopped.
I still think it is fun as a whole, and wish my friends that continue, to have great times..
I think I'd do certain drugs again.. But at this moment of time, I really don't feel the need to. I'm perfectly happy leading my life without drug-intoxication at the moment.

And no, it's not something you "need" to have "a better time" etc.. It was just all fun+games..

I do believe, a person cannot understand the feeling/emotions/reasons why someone does it, until you have experienced it, first-hand..
It just seems silly to argue from outside the box.

(And from all of the nonsense I have typed.. I wasn't speaking of experience from Weed).
