  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Why do people keep bumping old threads.?

I assume they are being good forum citizens and checking to see if a topic already exists so there is no duplication. Oh, sure--the resurrected thread might not have any posts since Clinton left office, but it's better to be safe than sorry when it comes to avoiding duplication!

Yes. It is a Catch-22. If you revive an old thread, people complain about reviving old threads. But if you start a new thread, other people complain about not using the search function to find existing threads. But it really does not matter.

I think we can all move on to complain about the complaining.

I'm rather enjoying it.

There were a lot of threads posted in the past with a wide variety of topics.

Something that is rarer these days.

It is also fun to be reminded of people who used to post here.

I'd rather complain about the complaints about all the complaining.

Can I have a cookie, please?

Says the guy that chastises every newbie that bumps an old thread.

:didisay:

Excellent! That's complaining about complaining.

And to your point, I thought of that when I posted the remark. But, I think there's a big difference between an active or returning member doing it, only by digging for it, than an alleged newbie just finding it and reviving an argument.

Much of what metta is reviving is just nostalgic. The cut/uncut hoohah looks suspicious because it IS suspicious.

But, you and anyone else can validly object to impugning the integrity of new members, and do. Hot Topics remains a zone that is not "no-flaming" as the support forums are. The extremes are more or less welcome here. I guess I'm an extremist when it comes to cloak-and-dagger posters under suspiciously new accounts.

And, with Johaninsc's accuracy record, I'll gladly stand on his side of this issue.

its just weird when someone replies to a post from 2006 i highly doubt the person is going to reply back

That's fair. I left feedback for a couple of current members on their ancient posts. But, on the behalf of the Revivalists, raising the thread may not be about addressing a member as much as it is addressing a topic.

I haven't asked metta, but if I were to be a mind-reader, I'd suspect he a) misses the color (colour) and variety of posters who frequented this forum almost 20 years ago., and b) misses the day in which Hot Topics evoked a lot of very active threads with opposing views across the membership. Yeah, that's what I would suspect.

And, as a footnote to the idea that division makes for intractable enemies on the forum, it can, but I remember metta and me strongly clashing on some social justice issues back when he posted a lot a few years ago. We carry none of that baggage today. It's all about the thread and the topic at hand.
