i think strait men flirt with gay men the same reason they think all gay men want them. they are just oblivious to the fact that just because a guy is gay, doesnt mean he wants you. do they think gay men have much lower standards than women or something?

Sexual behavior and sexual orientation are two different things.

A man may be much more attracted to women, physically and emotionally, and still be at least curious about homosexual activity of some sort. We always slap a label on it, usually "bi". The research I'm familiar with shows that few people are bi, like the study of "bisexual" college guys who didn't have any penile response to naked women.

I'm gay and yet I have been attracted to some women and curious. But, I find the female genitalia totally unappealing. It's probably how hetero guys feel about gay guys doing things to anuses. Some guys will make negative comments about "what comes out" even though blood comes out of women periodically which isn't all that appealing either.

The key, I think, is to recognize that not all sex acts are equal. Since hetero guys masturbate, mutual masturbation with a guy is not as unlikely for them as something like rimming. Asking the average hetero guy to lick a guy's butt... I don't think the odds will be good that he'll agree. I feel that way about licking a vagina. Yet, if the right woman wanted to do certain sexual things with me, I could be open to that.

So, while most people have a strong preference for one sex or the other, there is some flexibility in terms of behavior. The situations in which hetero guys would want to mess with other guys are more narrow than those involving women and the same thing applies to gay guys with women and so on.

When they're flirting it doesn't mean they're necessarily flirting with the guy. They may just be flirting with the idea of homosexuality.

I agree, this is so true. A lot of straight guys (especially the ones who are insecure with their sexuality) do the flirting because it puts them in control. They feel like they have the power to start and stop it whenever they need to or seek attention. They are lacking some type of attention or sexual stimulation at home, so your attention/flirts that you feed into them is an outlet to their gay curiosity, since they are too scared/homophobic to try anything physical with a guy.
