I know some cultures place a great deal of importance as to whether a man is 'Son No. 1' or 'Son No.2'.
I met a man who assumed only the first-born son can wear an ear stud. I know many cultures which say 'Son No. 1' MUST MARRY before 'Son No.2' can be engaged.
