"Why I'm Not Proud of Being Gay"

I'm not proud of being gay, in the 'gay-superiority-complex' sense of the word.

But I am proud of being gay to exactly the same extent that I am proud of being male, 'white', English, short, dark-haired, etc ... ie, all things over which I had absolutely no control and which were determined by forces acting on me prior to my birth.

You should be a teacher.
It is good to keep reminding people the basic human nature. :)

I prefer to use the context, "I'm gay and I'm happy," even though it has nothing to do with this.

I think the shrink was wrapped a bit tight and

loves to hear himself (trust me..I recognize that trait)

But I do agree.........Gay Pride............what a stupid Buzz

phrase and one that will set people on edge.

Use that same OED for C-o-n-f-i-d-e-n-c-e and maybe

star a group for Gay Confidence Week...strong healthy

words but not negative or denigratory to others..EH?

I don't mean to sound like a homophobe - I'm just uninformed and need answers.

I know that I was born gay, but if we're gay by nature, why is sex not natural for us? Or is anal sex natural?

I came across this idea while doing some research on an essay defending gay marriage, and i thought it was an interesting point. Again, "no homo"phobe =P

The function of sexual activities is to achieve pleasure (and biologically, on heterosexual couples, reproduction) by stimulation of genital organs. So the definition doesn't only include male-to-female copulation/vaginal sex, but also others, such as masturbation, anal sex, oral sex, etc.

That the same activities can be observed on other species proved that it's normal.

Doesn't the cat or the dog licking themselves count as

animals having oral sex?

I mean, like if I could do that to me, it would sure be oral sex.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Now, on this gay pride thing - i don't find any problem with a minority group being proud of who they are. Ex. black pride, women pride...

Call me old fashioned............but my

granny used to always say two things

that I've always found to be grounded

in the truth. Don't count your chickens

before they hatch was one. The Other?

Pride goeth before a fall.

'Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall.' Proverbs 16:18 ('Authorized' version, so-called)

Fabulous, turn of phrase.

for me it is so simple

how about "proud to be out"

not hiding, not ashamed

and not using some poor woman as a social shield.

and, unlike the author, I do like socializing with gay folk.

I think some people forget that there are still people who hate us,

who would love to force us back in the shadows (Tennessee anyone?)

Gay Pride 2011

This is how I feel. It's already been said: I'm no more proud to be gay than I am proud to have brown hair. I like being gay, just like I like having brown hair. I am, however, proud that I've overcome (and continue to overcome) obstacles in order to live my life out, honest, and true to who I am. That's worth celebrating.

^You'll have to understand that i'm a typical American in that regard.

I am proud to be out and I enjoy celebrating the progress that lgbt rights have made at pride.. Do i think it is sometimes way to scandalous? I used to until i went to one haha it wasnt that bad.
