  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Why is Alcohol, Weed, and Cigarettes a requirement for friendship or having fun?

I don't use drugs or smoke, and see nothing wrong with a beer or 2, I wouldn't get drunk.
All that, might be fun (until the next morning), I don't really don't want to find out
Its all not my thing. I see none of the above as being a requirement for friendship

LOL but I'd be pretty boring to 'party' with

smoking , drinking , drugs and orgasms . All entirely unnecessary to life and the nicest things that will ever happen to you .

there has always been a very significant Puritanical element in particularly American culture-society . What used to be sinful is now just unhealthy or a crime .

Oh, it's most certainly not a requirement! Heck, all my friends aren't really into alcohol or smoking. Sure, they drink, but hardly any large amount.

You just have to keep looking. And never pretend to be something you're not or you'll attract a different crowd.

It's not a gay thing. Alcohol makes literally everything more fun -- there's no getting around it. And drinking around sober people is a drag -- it's like getting naked in a room of fully clothed people.

In both cases, I don't see the problem, or why it should be a drag. If I'm doing what I want to do, any issues aren't mine, they belong to the other people.

BTW, I think that if I were the only naked one in a room of clothed people, I'd definitely want to be drinking!

The answer is simple: they're simple ice-breakers. If you're a smoker and see someone smoking, you go bum a smoke and it opens the door to conversation -- same with the others. Or you can let people know you have smokes, booze, or weed, and it attracts people almost instantly, so in a place where you don't know anyone you've immediately collected some with whom you have something in common.

It's also a social thing, in scientific terms: sharing either food or recreational substance has been a way of opening social doors for longer than we've been a distinct species.

I like drinking, but that doesn't mean that all my friends have to like it.
