Why is Borat so popular?

It's popular because Americans are notoriously simple to entertain. Juvenile, low-intelligence comedy will get you very far here.

Call me "juvenille" or of "low-intelligence" but I think he's funny. Even though he sometimes makes fun of the modern day rapper. :)

I don't get it either, and he was the one BIG surprise win tonite at Golden Globes. But it must be something I'm not understanding as I'm shoulder deep in Borat fans... ahh well, I take solace in thinking I'd do `im in a heartbeat !

^^^^^You must not like John Belushi, et al, either.

The film satirizes various medieval beliefs that hold forth in our society; however, it does it by stretching the reality somewhat. On the other hand, a lot of 'Borat' IS documentary. That is, it records people saying what they want to say.

Do people these days have the capacity to react in a positive way to social satire??

Borat's WELL funny, you bunch of boring bastards!!!
Get a sense of humour.. jeeeezus!

:rotflmao:

Saying that.. who's said they don't like it.. are American.. which explains a LOT.
Ooooh controversial! Slap my hand, Sally!

Not if the victims in that movie were exposed for a small compensation to a world-wide audience

I realize that much of the film's intent was to make fun of the people who are watching it, but the whole movie was just terrible. People were laughing their heads off in the theatre and I wanted to play tetris on my cell phone.

Can't stand his characters either. Must be a young generation or chav type thing - ie easily amused!! ;)

Uh, can you say Monty Python??

If we'd all just adopt a proper British accent, we'd all at least seem so much more intelligent.

Not to pick on the Brits, per se, but that's just one example.

I don't disagree about Monty Python. I've never not laughed so much in my life.

Maybe I'm just stuck-up, but I only enjoy comedy that requires the viewer to have an I.Q. over 50 in order to be understood.

you americans are su fucking stupid and he mocks at you

he is very liberal and he hates stupid people and he pretends to be one of them so he can make fun of them. borat is the best

I have no clue why he is popular. Just not my kind of funny.

Python is something you either grok straight away, or spend your whole life mystified by how it could possibly be considered funny. There's no inbetween.
Yeah during Monty Python I hardly laughed, and had no idea how people could consider this one of the funniest movies ever.

I loved Borat. I guess either you get it or you don't.

Here's his acceptance speech at the Golden Globes.
