Why is everyone so fascinated about Windows Vista®?

100% untrue
office 2003 should work

the new office can save in the old office format but also in the 2007 format which isn't backwards compatible

2007 is actually really cool and actually very innovative ..|

I believe he was asking about Office XP not office 2003, or at least that is how i read what he posted. I have office XP on my laptop and 2003 on my desktop. I'm NOT running Vista so i don't know. i did a quick google, but didn't see anything specific.

I have Office 2003 installed and it definitely works. I have Adobe Photoshop CS and it definitely works on Windows Vista. A lot of programs work, only thing that doesn't work is Pinnacle Studio 10.

Hmm. Having spent years with windows I hope you will indulge the newly converted. I was a mac hater and windows tolerant, Now I never want to see a pc again. But I will admit I am not a gamer just a gay man. Flames welcome!!

for a PC i dont think i will ever buy a mac laptop maybe

here are the reasons

mainly its about Choice with apple you have none

i bought my keyboard and mouse a years ago for $200 but if i buy an imac apple will still give me theirs which costs $129 even though i dont want the pieces of shit

i have to get a monitor even though i just bought my 19 inch samsung for $300 6 months ago

graphics cards either x1600 or 7300gt not bad but what if i want better sorry no you cant with this computer even though it could handle it your not allowed :grrr:

Mac mini is just shit just not even on the radar

then there is osx i have just spent all my money on the top of the line imac best graphic card and all surely there will be some extra effects or options i mean i dont like brushed aluminium surely i can change it to something i do like black? white? like the ipod's no what about the colourful nanos no why not?

Why cant apple make a good pc at an affordable price and then let me add options to it

What i want instead of them??????

If you're not a gamer, Mac is right up your alley, it's really because Mac just comes with several things, I saw the iMac at school, it came with a monitor, and it already had a DVD rom on it, and keyboard and mouse. I suppose reason why people are buying it is because of all the hype they hear about it, the whole commercials with the guy saying how great Macs are. I'll always love both Windows and Mac.

I downloaded Windows XP Professional in 2005, then when my computer crapped out on me, not because of Windows, because of the motherboard, I had very much bought a system that I would be happy with. If you have a wallet full of gold then I'm sure you'll buy the very expensive Mac products, but all I had was 600 bucks so I bought the computer with Windows Vista.

Well _AJ_ I like the combined monitor on the mac, I like the built in mic and speakers, I like the remote and I like the keyboard and mouse, Ok the keyboard doesn't light up but the monitor gives me more than enough light to see where it is. The graphics is fine flight simulator works well, I can use windows at the same time or as dual boot. I never changed the appearance of XP and feel no need to do so on the Mac. What I have found over the years is that most people who move away from the default settings end up with a worse looking and less functional desktop. You only have to look at myspace or some cutomised homepages on Jub with black writing merging into a black background etc.

But the main reason for the mac is exemplified here. A mate brought round his new mobile phone and software disk and wanted some help transfering data. I loaded the disk into the pc and told it to get on with installing it. While that was happening I browsed for the phone on the mac's bluetooth, found it immediately and let me browse the phone and asked if I wanted to sync it. Then had a look for nokia software for the mac found it downloaded and installed in less than 2 minutes. Long story short 20 mins and a restart later the pc had the software loaded, We had already done the job. The software was shit and it then took 15 mins to uninstall it. To uninstall on the mac took 2 secs max.

The Mac may well not suit those who want to continually tinker and tweak and customise but for those who want a tool to help them achieve their goals with minimum fuss and frustration I advocate the mac. It is a Rolls Royce to the Pc's Fraud Fiasco. This is just my opinion but I know it is shared by many others, I did my research carefully before switching. Turning on the PC is now so painful as I wait the agonising 3 mins to see if it will get to a stable condition. The mac takes 25 seconds. The anti virus software almost killed the pc and I had to remove it, I don't have any on the mac, don't need it as I never open unsolicited email attachments.

etc. etc.

this is my XP pc atm

Vista was announced Ages ago. Microsoft said it was going to be Revolutionary, heavenly and almighty. Came 2004 2005 2006... 2007! finally. Vista launched.

While Microsoft was busy making vista... usable.. Mac OS X has been around for ages. Such a revolutionary OS, from the architecture (superb) to the GUI - just total sex. It was ahead of its time.

I came to visit the vista website when it was first up and soon after it was open for beta testing. I clicked on the link to redirect me to the vista website and behold... transparencies, Aqua-like graphics! I was astonished. Is microsoft serious?? So I browsed around the website, reading all about the "new stuff". Oh wow, new GUI! Definitely inspired by Aqua GUI. Search? No brainer, i called it spotlight only thing is it's on the bottom left and not on the upper right, Even the vista logo itself is not safe from being seen as an emulation or inspired by... Apple. The folks over at apple are smart enough so they had some answers to the impending Vista. This is WWDC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-2C2gb6ws8
Okay, some sarcasm : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDNuq94Zg_8

Okay, we could go on and on and on about this topic, okay, windows got certain improvements, most of them I think are more superficial... but then again, No matter what anyone says, and no matter what anyone does the fact is... It's still windows.
That means.. DLLs, Registry, .exe, viruses, trojans etc. Or.. it's just XP or any other older version of windows that just got a facelift. And it's not a good one too. It's just too tacky!

I was a windows user before. It's true windows works, and I've done a LOT of stuff with windows.. but proportionally, I've got problems with it.

Both OSs let's me do things that I need to do - whatever it may be, thing is, the mac just does it better and easier. It's a better experience.

1) spotlight as it is called in osx was shown in vista before and released for xp before OSX

2) widgets were create first by konfabulator for apple OSX not by apple itself it then copied it ironically Apple were going to use Gadgets but changed to widgets later in development

3)its a chess game

its not like mac copy is it  what is that new feature umm system restor.... sorry "time machine" i always get those confused

i have talked about his before and yet no one has said anything about my points

I don't care who copied who it is irrelevant. Apple made it work properly first. That is what I require, something that works!

i wasent talking to you but what did they get to work properly first??????

System restore is not the basis for time machine. Have you watched the preview/demo for the time machine? Because system restore is definitely primitive as compared to the uber advanced time machine. Just go watch the demo.. You'll like it. ;)

http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/timemachine.html

And yeah, Chess is chess. but not all chess games or even chess tables look the same! And yeah apple took the inspiration for widgets from konfab. Everyone knows that. They were just the ones who popularized it and actually incorporated it into an actual OS as compared to having it like a third party utility.

Yeah mac just does it better. It's like if you had to kill a monster windows does that by stabbing it with a spoon, mac deals with it using a sword. Just cleaner and quicker.

They got spotlight to work first as it came out before Vista and the search in XP is nothing like the same.

They incorporated widgets into the core of the OS before Vista came out.

When time machine comes out it will make system restore seem like a cannon as compared to a surgical instrument.

Have you actually worked with OS X? It doesn't sound like it. I have worked with Windows for years.

Do i sound like i have pockets filled with gold?

of course i cant buy a mac but i used to want one until those ads i hate them so much plus i like to play games and to get a decent imac it would cost me $2400 to $3000 as compared to $1000 to 1500 plus i would need to buy a full version of windows not OEM which is another what $300 or so for a mac

I agree with you about the ads. Fortunately I didn't see them until after I had bought it. That said, now I have one, they do kinda ring true. Ads that trash the opposition tend to put me off.

I never advocated the mac for games as I only use a flight simulator and xplane is excellent, even got a generic driver for the logitech joystick.

As you say spotlight is nothing like finder and is instant.

Well... Spotlight is much more functional and much more organized... And I think you'll agree with that. Just look at it. It's nicely sorted and stuff.
