I didn't know that "tranny" was an offensive word. o___O I thought it was a nickname and/or abbreviation for the word 'transsexual'.

Yeah. From my experience, Trans people prefer Trans-male, Trans-female, TransFolk or simply Trans etc.

Why does the person getting the word said to them have to take responsibility for not being offended or bothered by it? The problem isn't them it is the person saying it.

to me,bullying is about feelings - the feelings (or lack thereof) of the bully, and the feelings of the bullied - not the actual language used.

I think we all have experience with thick skin - admiring it in others, attempting to cultivate it in ourselves, and understanding the inadequacy of the response of "you just need to develop a thicker skin" to someone exhibiting extraordinary sensitivity.

Context is everything. Who would say Toni Morrison is being verbally abusive when she uses the word "nigger" in any of her best-sellers? She's lending her characters historical depth. She can use the word while I cannot? I'm extraordinarily sensitive about THAT.

There are many ways people can call me a faggot. One of my favorite responses whenever this topic is broached is, "myself, I prefer the term cocksucker. it's such a delicious word."

I have several different responses to hate speech - and by hate speech, I mean speech meant to hurt my feelings - speech that doesn't necessarily use any of the seven (or fifty-seven hundred) Taboo Words, but is nevertheless intended to make me go home and cry in my pillow wishing this crummy world would end already. Sadly, that IS an all-too-typical response for me, much of the time. I wish I had a thicker skin, but mostly i wish the world would change, and that everyone was just much nicer to each other.

I don't care what words they use. I just care about their feelings.

Do you know if transgender is preferred over transgendered? Just wondering.

Ive never heard it said like that actually. If it helps, Ive never heard a Trans person call themselves that.

different people will give a different response to how they see it but at the end of the day, it's best not to say anything that you're not 100% sure that someone might be offended by. if they are, apologize and explain what you mean.

and it seems like people are catching on to the word tranny being offensive though.

I guess a word is offensive once X% of the world decides it is. And you can agree or disagree with that X%. Personally, I think there are more important things to argue about than noises, but if that's the hill you want to build your camp on, you have fun with that. Just let me know each time I'm being offensive with my pixel arrangement, and color each comment duly noted.

So what ARE you asking? Why more people find faggot unacceptable than tranny? Probably because 1. fewer people know a tanny than know a faggot, and 2. tannies are a few steps behind the faggots in gaining recognition and rights.

I sometimes slip up and use it.

Small person is the way to go, I think. Or is it Little People. Or both.

Sometimes people don't get it tho. It's like they think you're talking about someone who is short but in an average way.
if you want to mutherfuck them use "vertically challenged"

I call people faggots all the time, and trannies. If it's not said with mean intentions than I feel as if I've done nothing wrong. Haters gonna hate, but I say 'fuck off' ;]

One is used by stupid queens to be funny and or ironic

The other is widely used to degrade children/young people and send them into a tailspin. The idea that both of those words in today's society hold the weight is ridiculous
