why is it bad to want revenge?

i want REAL experiences where revenge was bad; NOT some high, lofty idealized beliefs that don't have any place in real life.

my reason is because i have verbal confirmation from others that my landlord is racist and is kicking me out because of it; but not a single one of these "confirmers" will to put his neck on the line to do anything about it. so i want revenge because i know my land lord is going to get a way with it.

:jab:

What reason has he put forward to kicking you out?

because my bedroom is a mess.

according to the landlord: if you don't make the bed; put your clothes away and clear up the clutter of computer parts from your desk; then it'll attract roaches and rats.

Has he issued you any kind of written warning? Is there any stipulation in your lease that you have to make your bed? You may want to talk to a lawyer.

definitely get a lawyer. and go over your lease agreement to make sure that there wasnt some fine print that could have been missed.

no writing; but it doesn't matter because the landlord has a LOT more money that i do. i can't afford a legal battle.

let me borrow a couple thousand and you got yourself a deal.

Doesn't NYC have some sort of housing authority that you could file a complaint with? (Pardon me for ending a sentence with a preposition.) At the very least, he might be given a fine for improper eviction.

there probably is some unheard of office where i can file a complaint where it'll be cataloged away. at worst, the landlord will have to pay a fee. (trust me, the landlord and EASILY afford it).

that's not the point of this thread; the point is why would enacting some sort of revenge be morally reprehensible in this situation? (not that i don't appreciate you trying).

Well, define revenge. How would you get revenge over your landlord?

something that would be difficult for the landlord to deal with (like it is for me) and something that will cost $$$ that the landlord cannot afford (also like it is for me).

If you do that, he'll probably just pass the cost on to his tenants.

Go to the local news. Someone there may make a story of it and expose your landlord for what he is. You could get revenge and do something useful at the same time.

Being that this dude seems to have a lot of money, what could you do in your power that would cause him great financial loss and not land you in prison? I'm dead serious asking this.

the landlord isn't a millionaire; is just wealthy.

i don't have anything specific in mind; it's just that so many are telling me not to go with revenge; but i'm having a difficult time understanding why it's not deserved in this case.

Perhaps it is deserved, but what about the consequences for you? It's not easy to get revenge on someone without getting caught, and it sounds like there's no shortage of people who know that you have a motive.

the "verbal confirmers" are the tenants; they're the ones who benefit from this whole arrangement.

they get an inexpensive place to live in the middle of a wealthy neighborhood and all it costs them is silence.

i would have; had someone else been willing to speak up.

.. right now, it's my word against the landlord's and there are plenty of d*cks out there who are willing to say that I'm just playing the race card.

probably true. which is why i asked for first or second hand experiences.

.. but i want this to be plainly obvious that it was me anyways.

I believe you have every right to be livid about this. I hope you don't feel that people don't think your anger is justified, because it is. But revenge is a toughie because it often comes back to you doubled or tripled.

when has it doubled or tripled back on you or someone you personally knew?

I think that your friends are more concerned for what would happen to you were you to act out revenge on him.

there were never friends; just neighbors. now, they will never be my friends. :(

A good reporter who is serious about the story would do investigations you wouldn't be able to do. . . and might find a few 'anonymous' sources.
