Why is lesbian interaction more accepted by society?

Many straight men are turned on by the thought of two women gettin' it on. For them, I suppose it's like taking that which turns them on in the first place and doubling it. The more bouncing boobies, the better.

However, most straight men are disgusted by the thought of two men gettin' it on so don't want to see it, hear about it, think about it, be reminded of it. At all.

I personally think it's because of the whole penetration issue. Women can't 'penetrate' (therefore violate) each other naturally. Men can. And entering the anal canal is considered by many to be taboo.

That and I've heard some people flat out say that watching two women together is more erotic than watching two men because of the femininity issue. I happen to think the complete opposite. But then I'm a gay male, so what do you expect?

I've often wondered that myself. Unfortunately, I don't have any good answers. Maybe society is just full of hypocrites? (But perhaps that's more of a fact than a question.)

I saw something on t.v. kind of like that once, I think it was VH1 as well, and they were talking about how women were the prettier sex. I happen to strongly disagree, naturally!

Hopefully this doesn't turn into a debate - but look at Oprah and Gayle. Women form stronger more intimate relationships than men, even just as friends. Maybe it just seems more "normal" somehow. I could be totally wrong, but I think in general women feel more comfortable with two women together than two men, and most (straight) men jump at the chance to see two women together in any capacity.

It is a lot easier to get two female friends to kiss each other than two male friends - if that relates.

I'm not so sure.

Straight guys see so many pseudo-lesbian things which are very often not serious. Even in porn and soft-porn, most of the women in a lesbian scene end up getting knobbed by some guy at some point in the movie.

I should wager that a straight guy's definition of a lesbian is a "hot woman who will have sex with another woman until I get there to screw them both."

It's very rare that movies in which women experiment have a militant "butch" stereotyped lesbian character.
