My heating bill is the highest I have ever had. The house is 3500 sq. feet and I am averse to be overheated so it is never set above 65 F. The units are so old, and the main one is a heat pump dating to the 1980s.

There is a large wood stove in the basement but I'm not at home to keep it fed, so can't benefit from it. I'm going to look to get a pellet stove in down there to avoid these costs going forward.

In the summer, the central A/C units were not prohibitive as my lot is well shaded, but it has been a harsher winter here than their norm and the units so inefficient.

But, I love my place and plan to up the insulation and replace the units when I can afford to.

That's a lot of sq. ft., what kind of windows do you have?

I don't know how this compares with others, but we have about 1440 sq ft not including the basement, which is also heated, and we have a budget plan with the same charge winter and summer and our gas bill is $121.00 per month. We keep our heat at about 74 F day and night. We used to have terrible windows that occasionally let a breeze in, but we have replaced about half of them. Our furnace is about 60 years old and people are surprised that we still have one that old that works.

Thanks. I wish Cormac or medic would chime in here on Scotland. I don't know if they are renters or if they own their flats, but curious if it's the same as what you quoted.

Hi there. We are both owners. The rental market here is very expensive, Edinburgh being our Capitol city.

If you are renting privately, then you can expect to pay in the region of £900-1500 per calendar month, this does not usually cover the cost of your utilities.

Is Edinburgh like the suburbs of Washington, D.C., where government is the main business and therefore the local economy never contracts no matter how dismal things are in the rest of the country?

By the way, is the Scottish Parliament building as ugly in real life as it appears in pictures? Weren't there any astonishingly beautiful buildings from the 18th century that could have been used? Or even moderately beautiful buildings? Was this ever discussed, or was Scotland just given a pile of money from Westminster and a bunch of politicians and bureaucrats got together and decided that what the country really needed was not simply another ordinarily ugly building but an extraordinarily ugly building?

^Lots of international companies have their HQ's based here. Especially banking and insurance.

Trust me the Scottish Parliament building is truly as hideous as it appears. There were plenty of "alternative" sites to choose from, but no.

They knocked down a large council housing estate, meaning finding social housing for over 1000 families. They then go over budget and over time on the completion of that atrocity.

Only to find that the windows in the MSP offices would not operate properly, so they had to be all replaced at around ten thousand a pop.

It really is an eyesore in my opinion.

^Of course we are totally off-topic, but it really is a total mess of a building isn't it?

Thanks. I suppose it's good for a laugh. I sometimes say to myself re buildings like this one, "A more civilized age will tear this place down." Increasingly, however, I despair that a more civilized age is ever going to happen.

Have you seen what's just been approved in Paris, promoted by the cunt now in charge?

I've wanted a double-wide ever since I saw 'em. With a hot tub. Loved the concept of no stairs to the can.

If he lives alone and closed off all but one or two rooms, it might be that low if he set temp not nearly high enough and the weather was good. But if it was a too-quick rejoinder, probably not. I don't tend towards embellishment but I do tend towards lazy vocabulary. Particularly extraneous word additions that slightly shift the amount of inclusion in a statement on a particular point. Tho shortchanged sentences can also be a problem.

But embellishment? Lawks, no. Wouldn't dream of it. I find the truth to often be startling enough.

We looked at new double wides and they are nice, 1500 sq. ft. but run in the mid 50,000 range at a entry level model. They have some now with attached garages, ceramic tile floors and all kinds of goodies, but I am retired and what I save on utilities and ditching cable makes most of my payment on my new place.

Back in July I bought a new 'manufactured' home. It has good isolation, thermopane windows
and I have saved a bundle on heating bills.

Yesterday my neighbor asked me how it 'heated', I told him that my latest bill was 65.00,
he then told me that his was $40.

He is in a 'double wide' that is from the 80's, his furnace has a pilot light. No way can his bill be $40.

I thought that penis size on the web was where it ended. Do you ever 'embellish?'
BTW, I am 10 inches hard:rotflmao:

Why not simply ask to compare bills so you can each see how much he's used because "your bill is so much lower. Do you mind?"

This way you can stop speculating that he MUST be lying and see the proof with your own eyes. Or not, as the case may be.

The question was 'do you embellish?' Care to answer?

The title of the thread is "Why Lie About It."And you accused someone of lying without even knowing if it's true.

I offered a rational solution for you to find out the truth, that's all. Feel free to reject it.

I hate that. Two friends of mine, one in particular, amplify everything they say... spamming details that are hard to believe. Every story he tells... is the absolute at that. Then I give them a look as they were convincing me... make an observation... and turns out that the event was much smaller

They want to impress or have fun.
