Why Old Game Shows Were The Best...

Hmm...

WHAT was that game show that had a huge pile of wrapped presents
in boxes, and the winning contestant got to pick which box they wanted
to open....and inside it was either like a $10,000 check or a gerbil or something......

I vaguely remember this....

I loved Concentration. Whenever I was home sick from school, I got to come downstairs and watch it while I ate. I actually got to be one of the people who answered the surveys for Family Feud for a few years. (They sent me a T-shirt as a reward.) Joshua_me, I remember the show with the boxes, but can't recall the name of it.

So.....giving away my age once again......who here remembers Queen For A Day?

I believe there were two similar games. One was called Treasure Hunt. cannot remember who the host was.
and the other was Let's Make a Deal with Monte Hall (a fellow Canadian)

ah!! whats my line..now that was a great show...i loved dorothy and arlene
Is the Dorothy your referring to Dorothy Kilgean or something like that? If this is the gal, she was an investigative reporter. She was going to publish some scandelous piece she investigated on who really assinated JFK and she was found dead the day before it was to be published. Her death was ruled suicide but many believe she was murdered because she was going to blow the whisle.

Take a look at my avatar... you'll see what my #1 favorite game show is.

-Family Feud
-Wheel of Fortune
-Beat the Clock
-What's My Line?
-To Tell The Truth

sure do remember, my aunt mary was "queen for a day" back in the mid50s. she won a new kitchen and a washer & dryer plus some cash.--- i also love "you bet your life" with grocho marxs.

I can't believe it...did anybody mention Peter Marshall and the great "Hollywood Squares"?!Charo,Rose Marie,Zsa Zsa Gabor,Charley Weaver.....and the incomparable Paul Lynde?! "X" gets the square...:D

Art James was the first host of Jeopardy and Hugh Downs, Concentration.

My mother and I watched Queen For A Day every afternoon when I was four or five. So strange I turned out to be gay, huh?

Win, Lose, or Draw
I regularly watch Press Your Luck while eating lunch
My Dad & I used to watch Concentration when I was younger
Let's Make a Deal was always good, especially the booby prize
Scrabble! The sound effects were great.

I'm not old enough to have seen many of these when they were new, but I sure watched the reruns. Why have all the game shows today (minus Jeopardy) gotten so bad? The oversensationalism (word?)?

Someone has got to post the Youtube of the famous Family Feud with the "turkey -turkey -turkey" answers! An absolute classic. I thought Richard was gonna piss himself!

tommyj, I saw that one again about a year ago when the had the funniest gme show bloopers of something like that on ABC. that was hilarious. But overall, I have to say that Match Game is my absolute favorite of all time. God bless GSN and God condemn my local cable provider for not having it on their basic cable. I love that show so much and if there is indeed a dvd I know that it becomes the #1 request to santa for christmas.

I like watching the old game shows because the funny parts weren't all scripted in. That just makes them so dull and seem to be trying to reach back for what they used to be, and failing miserably at it.

I love to watch reruns of "What's My Line" and "I've Got a Secret" from the '50s. They are getting harder and harder to find on my cable system.
