Why Why Why Why are people so stupid

It is so irritating the manner in which we have expurgated threads. If a member deletes, why can his posts not simply have his name removed? The words were said, and publicly. If he no longer wants to be identified on this forum, fair enough, but the discussion was had with those comments in sequence.
I love a good Damnatio Memorae...it forces people to try to reconstruct context and/or for the elders of a tribe to try to remember the tale.

The art is in people getting it wrong.

Does anyone remember why the OP was banned and erased?

There are lots of banned members whose posts still appear...only those known to have committed actual crimes or who have been found to be underage usually have their towering avatars pulled down and all identifying features erased before the sands of time cover them.

I've been here about 20 years. My recollection is that JUB agreed to remove ALL posts from members who requested their memberships be deleted.

So, a self-delete is the source of the dark matter, not imperial dictums.

Another problem is that the programming code renumbers the posts after the deletions, so the gaps are only known by virtue of blatant reference or illogical sequence of comments.

In the case of threads begun by non-people now, it is particularly injurious, robbing the reader of the very intent of the thread. It could have been a serious statement, or a throwaway humorous one.

I do know of at least one instance where a Jubber, charged, tried and convicted for offenses was vapourized along with all their posts on here.

I remmebr him because he and I clashed a number of times because I thought he was a whiny, creepy piece of business.

Maybe the funniest part is that he seemed to think that the system owed him more support and I think he probable ended up being sigend up for at least 10 to 15 years of it.

I don't think one had to be convicted of anything by the mods to have all of one's posts deleted. When Benderboy left in 2014 and returned shortly afterwards as Cormac, all of his Benderboy posts had disappeared into the ether. I think it was more of a quirk in the software at the time than any form of retribution.

No...there was a reason why the previous posts had vanished...I wonder how he's doing?
