As most of you know, I'm harassed on ALMOST a DAILY basis by law enforcement...
And on SOME days it REALLY gets to me...
TODAY is ONE of those days...
Earlier -- I was entering the State of Oregon and, just like always, had to go through the Port of Entry where I was STOPPED in front of the scale house...
The cop tells me to PARK and bring in all of my paperwork -- well, the parking lot is a ways down the road and the first half of the parking lot was full with boat inspection people -- so I ended up having to walk 1/2 a mile in 90 some degree heat lugging my Permits, Licensing, Registrations book, log book, and bills of lading clipboard up to their office...
WHEN I get there -- he goes through everything to make sure it is legal -- and then asks to see my Oregon Permit -- I hand it over and he verifies by computer to make sure it is legitimate -- THEN he turns to me and says -- "The reason I needed you to bring in everything is that the license plate number on this permit doesn't match the license plate on your truck"...
I take the permit back and look at it and say "No sir, you must be mistaken -- this IS my license plate number -- and I can verify it by showing you the vehicle registration (which I did)"...
He then says "Well, your company must have switched plates or something then"...
I was LOSING MY COOL quickly -- I had VERY LITTLE sleep last night because the whores were out in DROVES in Bakersfield and kept banging on my door wanting to know if I wanted company -- YES -- WHORES!!! You see, cops are TOO AFRAID to fight REAL crimes, they'd MUCH rather harass legitimate citizens who won't shoot back. Not to mention, I'd been driving ALL day in MASSIVE heat...
So, instead of grabbing him by the neck and pushing him up against the wall (which is what I wanted to do), I took a couple of steps forward so that I was 'in his face' and said "I not ONLY own the truck I drive, I own the COMPANY that I drive for and I can ASSURE you that I have had the SAME license plate on this truck since 2006"...
He took a couple of steps back and said "What I need you to do is go back out to your truck and prove to me that the license plate on your truck matches these numbers"...
I grabbed all my books and headed out -- only to realize that I was in a separate parking lot quite a ways from the scales and that the interstate is one way only -- Plus, I wasn't sure what he asking for in the first place -- so I just walked backed to my truck, put it in gear, and left...
Thankfully, no one chased me down...
Why couldn't the cop just ADMIT to making a SIMPLE mistake rather then come up with some convoluted and bizarre scenario???
