Why WON'T cops EVER admit to being WRONG???

Jesus Teddy Tonka toy...

Now I really feel bad. You had to shoot straight up the I-5 with no
sleep and didn't even get to pull a Starbucks with me in Tomato town.

Oregon Border before 1500...from the birth place of Korn and the entry
point of the Kern River Parkway...you was hauling balls sport. Early as
you rolled through here we could of had that coffee.

Me a little less hard on the Oregonate Mounties. They is in Oregon and
their usual client s ain't sophisticated, intelligent, debonair men of the
world, they is just used to dumb lumber farmer truckers and such. Your
fine imposing figure of a man intimmy dated and the didn't know what to
do. east west east is a lot more worldly then them mid kids on the south
north coast run.

Every profession has it's good and bad apples and people with egos. People hate cops until they need them. Be thankful you have a fully functional law enforcement system in the U.S. Just try some countries where police are dysfunctional, severely corrupt and or will watch you get beat up without doing anything.

You were most likely stopped by State Police/Patrol/Troopers. Their primary job is making sure interstate traffic is safe, drug control, and vehicle safety. We have thousands of 18 wheelers and millions of cars on the roads all over America. Without "S.S." type of strict enforcement our highways and roads will be more dangerous than they are. I have friends in law enforcement and I have to tell you, I wouldn't have the nerves of steel required to deal with every a$$hole who thinks he has "rights" to everything and will "sue" you right away. Look at each profession from both perspectives to understand it better. I don't know why you're being "harassed daily" by law enforcement.

I'd only dispute one or two things in your post..First,people( motorists) do have rights. In a perfect world, they'd be observed by the Officer-Second,rights should be understood by the motorist, and never surrendered...

I'm all for cops doing their job, but,as a motorist,a citizen,a potential defendant, you also have job..That is,to not let a traffic stop escalate to a felony..Most times,if you're not stepping on your dick, this will never be an issue. But,maybe you have something in the car you don't want the cops putting in a plastic bag..First things first.Always drive like you are on videotape..If you get pulled over,be respectful, without catching a case.

I think that about half the policemen are just wannabe security guards.

They were bullies when they were young, they are bullies now that they are 'grown up'. The stories that I hear from our friend in the police would make you shudder when you realize how emotionally fucked up so many of them are and how fucked up their personal lives are as well.

And the closet cases are about as bad as they get.

Some people should never be given power.

That said, some of them are great.

Swerve, you have my absolute empathy and understanding. Last week I had a fairly frank discussion with a cop and after I got home and thought about it for about six hours - VERY pissed off! - I decided I know what I want to be when I grow up! A lawyer. Yesss, I took Fine Arts units earlier in the year (I'm in literature now, so it seemed natural) but couldn't get into it. I have now decided to do what my parents wanted me to do all along. It'll be a long, hard slog given I have to keep working in the meantime, but it'll be worth it when I finally get to make a few cops regret their bullying attitude and dismissal of those parts of the law that they're uncomfortable with - like identifying themselves appropriately, watching their tongues and tones, and getting the fucking torchlight out of my eyes when the road is well lit.

You, sir, are incredibly well mannered and tolerant. Bravo! I'm not so generous and I do envy you.

Aw phuck rareboy. You just took all that was golden, that once held a

cachet of uniqueness to a profession and made it as ordinary and boring

as any 9 to 5er, cpmmon man...I think I have a temporary hate on for you.

come on police person,,I won't hurt you. Have a hot jelly

roll twist and a cinnamon danish while I get your coffees supersized in the

TO GO cups.

I am sorry you have to go through that.

I think he was just doing his job and was probably too embarrassed to admit he did any wrong.

There are "bully" cops and the imbalance of power will not work out in your favor. If you lose your cool and start acting rashly, I am pretty sure you are going to get yourself in trouble. I am glad you reacted maturely, rather than doing whatever Sam Blum did.

See,

I told you Ram had some couth.

Let me share my "cops will never admit to being wrong" story:

This policeman was looking for a patient in the hospital I used to work in. He approached me and told me that someone was brought here and he must question the person.

And then he said: "He's sick."
Me: Do you have his/her name
Cop: No
Me: Gender or time of arrival?
Cop: No
Me: What time did you find him? Or what time did the ambulance arrived and left?
Cop: I wasn't there, someone called and the ambulance had already left the scene. So I don't know.
Me: Age or race?
Cop: I don't have that information with me.
Me: Is there something you can tell me about this person that you know? It would help me greatly in finding the person.
Cop: Erm, he's pretty sick.
Me: ...

Pretty sick? Pretty sick? Gee, thanks for narrowing it down to every fucking patient in the hospital. Yeah, 99% of the patients are really very well in health and they are just here for the fantastic hospital food and there's one sick patient being treated for sickness by the doctor specializing in sick. What kind of shit cop are you?

I spent the next 2 hours (including lunch hour) doing detective work while the cop complained about my inability to find a specific person in an enormous public hospital with the very helpful key word of "sick".

At the end of the search after I have passed him all the details of the patient, he said, "You need to learn how to do your job properly." Of course, I have to "apologize" and I did. "I'm sorry Sir, if I had more details on patient, the search wouldn't take that long." He didn't buy and started to rant about poor hospital service and finally he ended and said, "Why didn't you any details of the patient?"

"Because I am not the cop here."

Of course I didn't say that. This is also not the first time a cop harassed me in the hospital. I had policemen demanding me to get the doctor to speak to them even though I explained that the doctor was trying to treat the patient.

Oh, so now that I've read your tale of woe, I think I understand why you're such a bitter creature - you're apparently quite submissive and capitulatory in the physical world, and the last opportunity for you to release any pent up hostility is to do it over the net, where there is no real ramification on your life. Ram, running around like a fuckwit for some tosser is not being mature, or indeed anything other than silly and subservient.

Submitting to the abuse of any police officer who misuses the position s/he holds is short-sighted and facilitates that person in further abusing the office held. All persons in society choose the degree to which they participate or sit out. If a person chooses the role of police officer, s/he chooses to uphold the law as it it written and within the parameters of responsible and honourable behaviour. I grew up with constant reminding of the consequences of the individual allowing officials to behave inappropriately being shown to me on a daily basis. Perhaps you've been spared all that kind of shit, but clearly I'm better off for it. The society I live in and teach in is undoubtedly better off for having one more person who doesn't think it is okay for police to behave inappropriately as they trample the laws they swore to uphold or the members of the society they swore to serve and protect. It all begins small, and grows when nobody stops it.

Not really. I had a job to do. I wasn't being paid to stand up and tell him off. I was in the service line and if I was not "servicing" right, I am not doing my job. I don't get paid being brave. The only reason why I left that job because I yelled at this difficult woman and told her to stop being such a cunt. Of course, my boss forgive me but I was so embarrassed that I behaved that way. I learnt she was only acting that way because she discovered her mum had cancer. Another tale of woe.

If you think my first post was to maliciously attack you then no, I disagree. I could have worded it properly though to avoid this. I just don't agree with how you approach such situations. I think you can get yourself in more trouble or physically hurt.

No I have not been spared. I have lost my temper many times at JUB and in the real world and it didn't do me any good. I don't call it submission. I want to be in control of the situation and avoid further problems. Even the slightly hint of wit can get your arse in trouble. Let's take swerve's situation. I would have just complied and then complained to the necessary authorities.

This is not V for Vendetta or Nazi Germany. And I am not so full of myself that every time someone picks on me, I need to "stand up" and "defend what is right". Especially with the police when they can use the rule of law against you. Just because you stand up and fight back so heroically doesn't mean they will back down.

I have admitted in many posts that yes, being on the net, being hidden from people, it is easier to be more confrontational. But it has nothing to do with the fact that I have pent-up hostilities. I am just more of a coward ;). I have a Gandhian approach in life but I should learn to practice more of it here.

It's okay RAM,

You are an opinionated, easily ired, overly sensitive and even a little

bitch at times. You also know how to do a time out and re-evaluate

your stance or opinion based on incoming data. We might often be

poles apart but I respect you even though you have a bit of a sour

reputation as a Sentosa Island Slut I know that within you beats a

heart of gold and not one of a militant tyrant fanatic who is right period.

you sir, often ...

Well -- an INTERESTING end to yesterdays saga...

TODAY -- I was pulled around back of the Salem, OR scale house...

And I swear -- either the Oregon DOT READS JUB -- OR -- it was just pure bazaar coincidence...

Before the DOT cop began the inspection, he asked to see both my Oregon Permit AND Vehicle Registration...

It turns out -- that they have to type the license plate into the computer -- and then the computer weighs the truck and lets them know whether we have the legal permits, etc to drive in the state...

He was looking at the papers and scratching his head -- then he said "Oh, I know what I did wrong. I typed your license plate in as Iowa instead of Georgia"...

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???

He then turned to me and explained that both states have the same basic design and color for their apportioned plates and that he has made this mistake before...

It ALSO explains what happened YESTERDAY!!!

Well -- he finished the inspection -- which cost me almost half an hour -- and let me go...

Oh -- I had a good nights sleep last night -- and was a LOT LESS CRANKY today!!!

:):):)

P.S -- to answer a couple of questions raised in the thread...

1) Kenny -- no, my AC is NOT working well -- the condenser needs to be cleaned out thoroughly -- which is a 6-8 hour job because I have to tear the dash apart several layers deep to get to it...

2) YES -- I do get HARASSED a LOT more than MOST trucks -- I have NO IDEA why -- but one year I received 27 inspections -- where MOST drivers only get inspected ONCE every TWO or THREE YEARS!!! As you can see -- I was inspected TWICE since yesterday -- Once I was inspected FIVE TIMES in TWO DAYS... :grrr: As Kenny stated earlier, I run late model equipment which I take VERY GOOD care of and ALMOST ALWAYS run legally -- this compares with ALMOST everyone else I know out here who is ALWAYS running on fake logs, etc...

3) I've been told by SEVERAL people that the "No Lot Lizards" sticker does NOT work to keep the whores away -- they actually PERCEIVE the sticker as a CHALLENGE and become even MORE of a NUISANCE!!!

4) Chickenguy -- I LOVE the VISUAL -- but I hope it NEVER HAPPENS!!! :rotflmao:

Having been a cop for 10 years before I took a promotion to city management, some of the problem begins with the basic police academy.

For many years police have trained to be "an Army of one." It is because officers work alone in all kinds of conditions. The recent cuts in funding for law enforcement, fire, and other public safety likely mean that the one officer is on duty and covering many miles without a chance of back-up.

The training also included rolling up your windows, turning on a radio or other noise and completely isolating oneself from the population. We now know that was the worst way to patrol and conduct law enforcement which is the reason for Community Oriented Policing or COPS studies and activities.

Many agencies are under tremendous pressure to bring in dollars for states and cities as funding dries up from many other sources. I've seen at least two cities that now have a "you stop, you ticket" policy whereas when I worked the road, it was an officer's discretion on whether to ticket or not. Add to that the threat of lawsuits for not taking action and I am glad I'm no longer in law enforcement from a road perspective (I still work with agencies at the national level).

DOT stations for truckers are known for being "all business" and having little in the way of personality. While most truckers are very safe and law abiding, I've also seen many that are the opposite. However, the prevailing thought is that larger companies will operate legally in all ways; I think we are seeing from recent bus accidents that they often look at profit over safety.

Sorry that the officer was so unprofessional in your experience. It is officers like that which give all officers a black eye.
