i suddenly find myself wondering how much a pocket-sized variable radio frequency scrambler/deadner would cost.

the intention is very good and noble; but we all know that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

I find it kind of comical that people get all aereated about it while walking around with their mobile phone that can already track them to within a few metres. Yes there are guidelines and they have to send you a text that you have to agree to to be tracked, but anyone who has access to your phone for a few mins can do this and guidelines can always be overlooked by government. The moral of all this should be pretty obvious by now "Don't do anything you shouldn't be doing" If you want to break the rules wear an invisibility cloak, turn off your mobile and cut the power to the area of interest. No power = no wifi & no CCTV (very few systems use Uninterruptible power supplies)

hehe, very true

which is my my cell phone is always off and the mac address of my laptop is always spoofed.

i dunno, i grew up in northern arizona and i guess the anti-government/anti-big-brother vibe of that area has left it's mark on me. ;)

Well I learned something new there. I know about spoofing IP addresses but didn't know you could do it with a MAC address. I have my wireless network limited to specific mac addresses and never realised they could be spoofed. We live and learn!

you see? it's give and take here.

i have given... and now i'll take you. ;)

I've heard of MAC address spoofing but never gave it much thought. So explain to us how you do it Davy.

i just used a program called mac spoofer and used dhcp to get a new ip address for me whenever i connected to my university's network. (i wouldn't doubt that there's a windows program that does the same thing). my university kept track of you my mac address, so i used a handful of the mac address from the computers in the computer labs.

Exactly, it seems that we are travelling back in time, all the way back to 1984.

How people so willingly give up their right to privacy is beyond me.](*,)

^^ I suppose the simple answer is to just turn your mobile off. I mean let's face it it isn't going to work anyway if you jam it.
