Wikileaks [MERGED]

Re: Wikileaks

What have they done for society except put Americans and our allies' lives in jeopardy?
You are really working hard to be called a typical american. Guess what - this is not the first of their leaks, just one with the biggest impact on america. but it's not even their first "american" leak.

Amongst other things they revealed/leaked:
how a former kenyan president still was stealing money from the state

the guantanamo handbooks that for the first time actually proved how human rights violations are backed up by the US government (although it was already known at that time it was proven through it)

they have the biggest database of scientology documents, because unlike other platforms they don't remove them when they are sued. this database has been used a lot already to expose scientology practices.

internal documents of the kaupthing bank that showed how reckless they were using the money which eventually led the economic collapse of iceland. the people of iceland are extreme grateful for that and made a new law that gives wikileaks and others "a safe haven".

a report on how swiss company trafigura dumped toxic waste on the ivory coast and killed several people, injuring many more. before that people in norway tried to publish it but were stopped by the company's lawyers.

the climategate files (see the threads here for more info on that)

a report from the "feldjäger" in kunduz, related to the bombing of the road tanker near that city in afghanistan. this had a wide politcal impact in germany because it proved that the military knew that there might be potential civil victims - of course they told us the opposite before.

I can only imagine how many people have died because of the information Assange and his crew have released.

and many more, smaller leaks. people killed or hurt so far: zero. politicians and companies exposed for their lies - hundreds.

The Taliban have already admitted they will be going after the Afghani U.S. informants listed in the released documents.

of course they did. it's called propaganda.

I hope Mr. Assange is proud. If Obama has any balls he will shut down the website and track down Assange.
they are trying to undermine and shut it down for quite some time now. wikileaks leaked the pentagon papers describing how they try to do it :D
but they can't.
and since we do know that the US has no problem with letting people disappear (see kulindahr's post) it's understandable that Assange fears for his live. hence that "insurance" file.

Re: Wikileaks

You're not a Republican, you're a total statist, a believer in arbitrary police power for the central government.

Yes, Wikileaks was a little irresponsible here. But the solution isn't to shut down an operation dedicated to something the Founding Fathers of the U.S. believed in -- undoing secrecy -- it's to get them more resources to do the job right.

You actually believe the Founding Fathers would do such things that would most certainly put our Soldiers' lives in danger?

Re: Wikileaks

Why do you keep saying this? Have you read the documents? Explain what harm it can do to the US troops.

Also telling that your only concern is that it may affect your soldiers; while most of the rest of the world is expressing concern that it may affect the Afghanis who have been collaborating with the US forces.

I can guarantee everyone that if, instead of diversionary stupid little stories like balloon boy or obstruction in congress and the senate; if every person in the US and the allied nations had to sit through 24/7 recounting of the actual events of war in Iraq and Afghanistan, it would change the game.

I have no idea what your Founding Fathers would have done. They were not saints. Or even, in some cases, particularly endowed with moral qualities or intellectual capabilities beyond other ordinary men. They were people who rose to the challenge and the opportunity of their time.

Now it is your turn.

Re: Wikileaks

So are you calling Admiral Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a liar when he says what wikileaks is doing is very harmful?

Re: Wikileaks

laikaNYC, how old are you?

You seems to be not old enough to understand the media, politics and propaganda ... etc

Re: Wikileaks

I take it Telstra is cheerleading for Wikileaks. Stay on topic, buddy.

Re: Wikileaks

Age is important because you need to understand world history, world wars, Vietnam wars ... etc.

Re: Wikileaks

I'm actually in the process of getting a bachelor's degree in that subject.

Re: Wikileaks

bachelor degree means nothing if you are not old enough ...
Ok you are too young.

Anyway, your first comment was "he looks creepy and should be charged with treason" No point to talk any further :)

Actually I never said he should be charged with treason, nor did I say he looks creepy. His behavior and logic is very creepy. 0-2 Telstra. Did you not read carefully enough? Not to mention he isn't an American citizen therefore can't be charged with treason.

Re: Wikileaks

my quote is close enough. ;)

His looks have nothing to do with him being creepy, so your quote is definitely not "close enough". And yes, Bradley Manning should indeed be charged with treason if he's the leaker. Did you not click on the link?

Re: Wikileaks

yes i do. but from his point of view their doing certainly is "harmful" nobody wants his lies to be exposed.

do you believe anything that someone says just because he is an admiral or what? did you even check anything? you are just rambling about american soldiers "getting hurt", yet you never even bothered for a second to look at the grand scheme.

Re: Wikileaks

OMG.

I'm not saying he's a liar. I don't have to. But the last time the truth came out of the Pentagon was................

I'm old enough to remember the orchestrated mistruths of the Vietnam war era right through to the faked photographic 'evidence' of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction in order to justify a war that Bush's Whitehouse thought would be the economic salvation of the US.

Dear child. If you start to believe the military, we are all truly lost in the unlikely event that you survive long enough in politics to do real harm as a conservative republican aparatchik.

I've looked at the grand scheme, and I consider it to be very dangerous what wikileaks is doing. Forgive me for caring about the safety of the soldiers from my country.

Re: Wikileaks

^ The problem is, I don't think you really give a rat's ass about the safety of your troops. And frankly, I don't think you can be claiming to be able to understand the big picture if you don't understand the minutiae.

You're likely just one more spoiled kid wrapped up in your parents' flag, who got a poli-sci internship through someone in your family, who has been raised from birth to just keep barfing out the party line. Tell me what is written in these documents that actually threatens the US troops.

Tell me. In your own words. After you read the docs.

Could you step out of the rabid anti-war bubble you have yourself in and just consider the danger these leaked documents will be putting people in? A Democratic Congressman agrees.

By the way, could you please stop making disparaging comments about my personal life? Someone who claims to remember the Vietnam war doesn't seem to have the maturity level of someone his age.

Re: Wikileaks

from your article:
Carney said. "This is harming the nation to conduct war, and it is treason."

he didn't talk about any specific danger towards US soldiers because of this.

but as rareboy i am quite interested in hearing those reasons from you ..

Re: Wikileaks

Why is the White House asking wikileaks to stop posting classified documents? Because they're doing harm. Taliban leaders have said they're now using the leaked documents to hunt down Afghan informants who have been helping American troops. Who knows how much blood is already on his hands.

Re: Wikileaks

^ suddenly you are talking about afghans? how did that happen all over sudden?

and about what the white house says and what the taliban says .. both is propaganda. IF they already had bloods on their hands this would be all over the newspapers.

did you read a single one of those logs? i'd bet no ..
