I think there is some insight to be had from the diplomatic missives - especially about American exasperation about UK troops even thoush UK troops died there and the efforts there are scorned by its so called ally and the people we were supposed to help.

As for Assange, he's the messenger, not the person who stole the information. If you're going to hang anyone, find the traitor in your midst first.
 
This is such bullshit.

We're pouring billions of dollars and wasting thousands of american lives in a country that's controlled by a corrupt drug racket, and its wikileaks fault for telling us. North Korea is sending missles to iran and it's wikileaks fault for telling us. Russia, which still has thousands of nukes and missiles to launch them is a mafia state and its wikileaks fault for telling us.

Hillary turns the State Dept into a bunch of criminals who collect credit card #s and DNA(?!?!) from diplomats at the UN, but its wikileaks fault for telling us.

Julian Assange is a hero. He should get the fucking Nobel Peace prize, but of course he's a hunted man on some trumped up rape charges. If he did it, which is doubtful, but if he did, have you ever seen a world-wide manhunt for sexual assault charges? No.

Oh shit, the people (you know, the folks that get referenced so beautifully at the top of that old rag that Jefferson and washington and some other yahoos casually tossed off some years ago) might actually find out what's REALLY going on! Kill the messenger!

Finding out the content of these cables might hurt american interests. Like supporting a corrupt puppet who funnels drugs to the west doesn't hurt our interests. No, these cables help american interests, because WE are america, not hillary clinton and the rest.

Of course liars hate being exposed. that doesn't mean that exposing them is bad, it means that exposing them is good. "Oh no!" they say, "Now our allies wont trust us anymore!" Oh shit, you mean people might have to deal with each other honestly?!?!?!?! God forbid!

do we only believe in truth, honesty and freedom of speech and religion or beliefs when they are compatible with our own. this wikileaks matter shows ho much we really believe in personal freedoms and liberal ideology. is the west the same as Iran and north Korea just with different economic and religious ideologies. food for thought. freedom is not qualified by your agree-ability but is absolute or so western propaganda says. wikileaks highlights the difference between what we say and propagate and what we really do. in summary it highlights hypocrisy, and dishonesty to the citizens that vote for them.
 
Great post CGHJ. Totallly agree,

Wikileaks is an amazing organisation. The line regarding putting lives in danger seems flawed;deaths are occuring as a result of Australia's and USA's foreign policy, I don't think there is any proof that wikileaks has resulted in death, is there?

During the Bush admin, and continued on into Obama's, our government has fought (like many others) for the right to spy on all our communications and internet traffic. They have listening posts set up at places like ATT communication centers so they can listen to everything we do. The Echelon network scoops up pretty much every bit of electronic communication there is. Because they have to watch us, to make sure we're not doing anything wrong.

Over and over again they say, "well if you're not doing anything wrong then you don't have anything to worry about."

Now it seems like the shoe's on the other foot, and I love it.

When I was in Bosnia I worked in an office just down the hall from some army guys who were on the same secret network that all these cables are coming from.

One day we were playing cards, and they let slip that they see UFO reports come across there all the time. It was top secret, and they held to their oathes and never said another word about it. But I know those reports are on there and I can't wait to hear about them.

What if this is why they're hunting him so hard, it'll turn out David Icke was right and Hillary really IS a reptilian? That's a joke folks (I have to say that just in case). But god I hope there's something good in there like, 'Roswell UFO parts moved to WP AFB' or 'meeting with greys tomorrow at 11:30'. I would love to know about the reports. I don't think I will find out. If I do find out, I hope I don't have to wish I never knew.
 
Does it strike anyone as surprising just how much of a 'threat' to the world that freedom of speech has become?

The website has been hacked and disrupted continously, this man has been treated as if he was a terrorist or mass murderer, and he now has every justification to be feared for his life.

I would expect such fearmongering and slander from governments like China, who loathe freedom of speech with all their heart and are frightened of their own people, but I wouldn't have expected it from 'open' countries in America and Europe.

God forbid that the common public should ever REALLY know what is said and thought by the all-powerful and arrogant establishment and powers that be.

For my part, I hope he has backed up, copied, and stored everything he has in triplicate, and has arrangements with colleagues to keep his work going for as much and as long as he possibly can.

With any luck, the era of governments hiding their precious secrets as if they were totalitarian dictatorships is over.
 
I don't find it at all surprising, because the US being an 'open' country and a 'democracy' is a just a fiction used to pacify the populace. Toto has just run up and pulled the curtain back, but it's not a kindly old man from Omaha back there.

Antiwar.com is one of my favorite sites and one of the only realiable sources of information out there. I applaud their stance, especially since they're always hard up for money and it cant have been an easy decision. However they don't have control over their google ads. In fact, google reads that page and sees 'amazon.com' and thinks, 'theyre talking about amazon.com, I should put an amazon ad in here.'
 
Very glad at the leaks. These war crimes were suppressed, as opposed to being dealt with. Just like Abu Graihb. So it's only fair that leaking was resorted to.
