Wikileaks

I do have to amend what I said earlier about the UFOs, I did a little more digging and the soldiers I was talking about that saw UFO stuff come across their network were on a MUCH more secure system, so there's no reason to believe that those will come out with this release of docs.

However, I'm still hopeful that wikileaks has something good.

Apparently the next release will target banks, like Bank of America specifically. I'm sure they're dirty as hell, so here's hope JA sticks it to them hard. I'd also love to see some stuff on Goldman-Sachs.

Can't believe people are actually going into surveys and saying Wikileaks should be taken down. Ever since I first learned about Asange, I had concluded he was a hero. Sad he's going into hiding :( .

I’ve read this thread and similar ones like it on many forums, and I have not responded to any of them. I’ve really been on the fence about the topic until recently.

People are calling Asange a “hero” and whatnot for exposing hidden facts the US has tried to keep secret. Some of these facts should be out there, I won’t deny that.

But then you read about the fact that WikiLeaks has published a list of key infrastructure sites in foreign countries — including dozens in Canada — that Washington considers vital to the national security of the United States; “foreign sites that could seriously harm the U.S. if they were targeted by terrorists or destroyed by other means.”

Source: http://beta.ca.news.yahoo.com/wikileaks-lists-canadian-sites-vital-u.html

Who the hell does this benefit except those who’d use this information to target these locations?

To what ultimate purpose does releasing this list serve?

Dozens of these locations are in Canada, some of which I and my family live close to. How many of you would be calling him a “hero” if he just helped identify and paint a big Terrorist Bulls-Eye next-door to your home.

There have been many other reports released that put innocent people in harm’s way, including naming-names of secret high-profile US allies in hostile nations. So again I ask, especially to those who call him a 'hero'; who benefits from the release of documents like this, except those people who’d love nothing more than to see you and I dead?

When I was in Bosnia I worked in an office just down the hall from some army guys who were on the same secret network that all these cables are coming from.

One day we were playing cards, and they let slip that they see UFO reports come across there all the time. It was top secret, and they held to their oathes and never said another word about it. But I know those reports are on there and I can't wait to hear about them.

What if this is why they're hunting him so hard, it'll turn out David Icke was right and Hillary really IS a reptilian? That's a joke folks (I have to say that just in case). But god I hope there's something good in there like, 'Roswell UFO parts moved to WP AFB' or 'meeting with greys tomorrow at 11:30'. Or just confirmation that the USAF knows something really did land at Bentwaters in '82.

The age of secrets is dying. Let's all help twist the knife.

Stole the words right from me

I was just reading that the Swiss have frozen his Swiss bank account saying that he applied to open one using a Swiss address, but he was never resident in the country.

Sounds like shenanigans. Whether the sex scandal is also shenanigans, it must be noted that Sweden allowed its facilities and airspace to be use of rendition purposes. An international warrant was issued by Sweden to the UK to have him extradited for questioning for aforementioned rape - but no charges were made, which seems extra-ordinary in and of itself. Combining the two, his lawyer supposes that once Assange reaches Sweden, he'll be taken through the rendition route to the US to face charges of whatever for his exposing secrets and of embarrassing the US and other countries.

He will apparently hand himself in to police soon.

I don't think particularly sensitive material ought to be released especially the list of things and places the US holds critical for it's on-going efforts - who can guard so many places on foreign soil? This opens the possibility of chaos on a mass scale as someone above alludes to. As for hero - maybe for exposing the Scientologist.

You don't need to be a politician or a rocket scientist when it comes to making lists of 'strategic' companies, sites or organisations that are of national importance. I dare say that any one of us could - if we sat down for a day to research it - come up with a 'strategic' list for our own individual countries.

I'm sorry, but what he's doing is finally making governments answerable to the people that put them in power. He has them running scared because they're finally learning what democracy and free speech is about.

And suddenly - they've resurrected a rape charge, both PayPal and the Swiss Post Office have frozen his accounts and Amazon threw him off their servers. It will probably just be a matter of time before he has an unfortunate car accident or some other tragic demise.

"A State Department cable released by WikiLeaks revealed a secret list of infrastructure from pipelines to smallpox vaccine suppliers, which US officials feared could "critically impact" security if they were attacked."

A lot of the sites were secret... meaning, we didn't know about them for a reason. Now everybody does.

Again I ask, who does this benefit?

WikiLeaks began as a 'dead letter drop' for people to leak insider information.

The Cables they have published were not leaked, they were stolen.

And suddenly - they've resurrected a rape charge, both PayPal and the Swiss Post Office have frozen his accounts and Amazon threw him off their servers. It will probably just be a matter of time before he has an unfortunate car accident or some other tragic demise.

Maybe major corporations like Amazon and PayPal don't want to be affiliated with an organization that is setting up innocent people and legitimate informants for slaughter. I’m sure that would look great to the stockholders.

There were 2 charges, both made by former volunteers of WikiLeaks.

I'm standing with BearBoi on this one. I don't understand how someone could call this free speech given that THIS INFORMATION IS NOT THEIRS TO BROADCAST. My mother works in a clinic and free speech sure as hell doesn't entitle her to publish who's pregnant and who has an STI. And if the information released leads to an attack on a site in Canada that no one had ever heard of prior to WikiLeaks, then Asange is abetting a terrorist organisation. Simple as that.

I think that the rape charges probably ARE trumped up. It wouldn't be the first time that this has happened. It's a cheap tactic, but honestly if some country decides to have this guy killed, I can't fault their logic. If WikiLeaks prompts other people to 'become a hero' and spill secrets, we may as well start faxing our PIN numbers to al-Qaida because we're screwed.

Well, if Alexander Litvinenko can be murdered in London by someone close enough to administer radiation poisoning, how hard could it be to have someone infiltrate Wikileaks and be "raped" by him in an effort to discredit him..

Getting justice for Assange, or for any legitimate victims of sexual assault, will probably be very difficult given the interests involved.

So of course you've all ear by now that the reason he was an internationally wanted sex offender was, it was consensual sex, but the condom broke.

The Wikileaks sex files: How two one-night stands sparked a worldwide hunt for Julian Assange

After the night that the supposed 'rape' occurred, the victim threw a party for Assange. It wasn't until she found out he'd slept with another girl that she got upset. And this warrants a warrant (sorry, pun totally intended) from Interpol. God help me if they find out what I've done.

Unfortunately for him, now that he's in custody, Sweden has an extradition treaty with the US. And so the fun begins.

Perhaps the rape charges were drummed up. Maybe not. Either way, that is a matter that should/would be handled by the appropriate courts. I know someone who was raped. Celebrity or not, Assange should be fully examined.

My only reason for posting here was to address one aspect of how WikiLeaks conducts its business. I did this by asking a question: who was supposed to benefit from publishing a list of secret foreign-based US sites deemed critical to US security?

Clearly it has placed many innocent people in harms way. My family lives not too far from one of the sites on the list.

Since nobody has addressed my question, I’ll make a follow-up statement. This is just my opinion, make of it what you will:

I believe the release of the list of secret US sites was WikiLeaks' way of giving the US a giant middle-finger. The release of that list could serve no other purpose. They have endangered the lives of countless innocent people in dozens of locations across multiple countries for no other reason than to poke America with a pointy stick.

Thoughts?

^It would be naive to imagine that those sites, so critical to United States strategic security, are not already known to America's enemies.

Russia, China and Al Qaeda et al are hardly the stuff that Sunday afternoon picnics are made of, when advancing their particular agendas.

To date I have read nothing in these Wiki Leaks revelations that I would consider earth shattering.

Cyber war fare is here to stay. Just imagine if the enemy were much more than an Australian eccentric, focused on embarrassing the United States, and her erstwhile friends, and allies.

Governments of all countries are there to govern with integrity, not to rule as though some kind of untouchable, monolithic, deity beyond all doubt, question, challenge or subversion. Governments are made up of individual people who as often as not (at least as often as not) make decisions for personal gratification and gain and solace as not. They must never be allowed to operate without the threat of the 'lid' being lifted off; they must never have personal indemnity or sovereignty of State as protection for personal incompetence, inapproriateness, negligence, stupidity, acts of vengeance, and so on.

Companies who operate with greed and selfishness leading the way need to stand aside, too.

I do wonder why Wikileaks remains the focus for the public eyes rather than the honourable or incompetent and stupid government and private employees who release the information. Supposedly none of my fellow Australian's information has been hacked - all can be sourced back to the relevant governments. Many other countries might have had the interviews blocked some months ago, but it was very interesting to listen to the man of the hour speak.

It's a filthy little trick to arrest him over this ridiculous accusation. I want to know which government retiree, agent, cheap slut has laid the charges - if you'll pardon my pun. Any government who plays into the fear campaign ought to be voted out, if for no other reason than a penchant for self-service.

Won't it be embarrassing for the relevant governments and companies when Wikileaks finds out who was behind this one?! Oh, it's just like Wimbledon!

See post #32. ;)

I had read post 32, and all the other posts, before commenting.

I repeat. Do you seriously believe that America's enemies are not aware of those so called secret strategically important sites, revealed by Wikileaks?

I believe that the enemies of the United States are well aware of such sites.

The easy vulnerability of the State Departments communications system, to hacking by a very young soldier - I presume with a low level security clearance - would not stop a dedicated hacking job by enemy professionals.

I remind you of the very recent successful hacking of Iran's nuclear industry control systems by Israeli experts, which resulted in very serious setbacks for Iran's developing nuclear weapons industry. Well done, Israel.

I also remind you of Gary McKinnon's successful hacking of the United States Department of Defense centralised computerised communications some three years ago. Just for fun, and curiosity.

I repeat that America's security is vulnerable to hacking by the enemies of the United States. If amateurs can succeed, then be sure that enemy professionals can pose much greater problems for the security of the United States.

max fine for his crime .. $750. and he got an international arrest warrant for that. that's a first by the way.

hu? they were not stolen, they are still in the network where they always have been. a copy was leaked. if you equate that with being stolen, tell me how other leaks are different? they don't accept any kind of writeup, they only accept original material that can be verified. and that always has been so.
last year they got a price from amnesty international for documents leaked (or "stolen") from the kenian government. there is nothing more fun than some double standard, right?

sure .. that's also why they didn't mind it in the past few years. wikileaks never has been "low profile", they knew about them all the time ..
