Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

There's an epic divide in the military with those over 30 but especially the ones over 40 still having a great deal of prejudice towards gay persons. In a supposed high testosterone environment, much of this is hype....but a hype still embraced by a 50s generation hierarchy. I really expect things to change but perhaps not for the next five years.

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

It was a good segment. Sadly, it was the older men she interviewed who were ANTI-gay - and in charge. I did like the point that the military is between a rock & a hard place. They need "bodies" so they can't really discharge evey gay/lesbian. Thus change might happen sooner than later (5-10 years VS 25 yrs).

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

aww, that couple are very cute

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

as keeping soliders becomes harder and harder the justification that gays are a bigger threat to our military than Al-Qqada won't fly

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

The 90's was a huge step forward for GLBT people. Philadelphia, Ellen, and Will and Grace come to mind. Also, the Matthew Shepard case shed a huge light on homophobia in this country.

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

The 'old men' tend to cling to whatever little power they still have left... That has not changed since the ancient times.

Yet another thing has not changed at all since the times immemorial: if you need my ass, you'll be kissing it or I am gone.

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

I seen the interview also and that was the first time I head of the "Will & Grace generation". I do think he was right thou. People that are below 25 have grown up with mostly positive characters on TV and that make them more positive toward gay people in general. Now we have Ellen and Neil Patrick Harris that are even more positive images of us.

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

During the Vietnam War, they took people who came to the draft board wearing dresses (to get out of it).

They'll take gays if they need them, then deny the benefits later.

You had me right up until you mentioned Ellen (who seems to be one of the biggest attention hog in the LGBT community) and NPH (who just isn't one of the best spokesmen for the community, simply because he is best known for his girl-chasing roles).

As for W&G: Will was probably the best thing for the gay community, as it showed a gay man with all of the foibles of a regular guy, instead of the usual gay man who was a lot better than any of the straight guys around him. That, in and of itself, is one of the reasons that it was such a ground-breaking series...

Re: Will and Grace generation: Soliders

Ellen's attention seeking moments -- her character came out on her sitcom, she had a crying spell over a dog and she announced her marriage.

What am I missing? She hardly ever talks about her personal life.
You're joking, right? Her character didn't "just come out"; there was a whole advertising campaign based on the concept. She also made it a point that EVERYONE knew about BOTH of her potential weddings. And you were aware that she had a talk show, right? Where she talks about the intimate details of her life? For someone who "hardly talks about her personal life", we seem to know a lot about it...

As far as NPH...what could be better than showing the world that "real" gay men (as opposed to fictional characters) can do anything, play any role...including playing straight.
Given that gay men have been playing straight for so long (Rock Hudson, anyone?), that's hardly anything major. I'd just like to see him in more actually gay roles, and not as a women-chaser (even in the Harold and Kumar movies he was looking for whores!)...

Re: Funniest Will & Grace Character?

Karen definitely for me. She's just the silliest thing ever.

Re: Funniest Will & Grace Character?

This was a tough one, but in the end I have to go with Karen...she had the best one-liners!

Re: Funniest Will & Grace Character?

I think Karen is the funniest. But put Karen and Jack is even better and much more wild.

Re: Funniest Will & Grace Character?

Will and Jack aren't very good actors

Jack is supposed to be a bad actor on the show.

The actors that play Will and Jack have Emmys.

You know those times when Jacks says his lines super fast, "hot toddy, hot toddy, hot toddy" thats takes skill and not every actor can deliver that.

Re: Funniest Will & Grace Character?

I gotta give some love to Anastasia Beaverhausen.
