Will sean cody ever work on a mac?

I've been interested in Sean Cody.com for some time, but their page says it's not mac compatible.

Does anyone know what technology they're using that doesn't work on a mac?

Is there a workaround? Thanks.

That is interesting. I tried it with IE 5.2 for the Mac and got the same message. Mebbe this should go to the tech forum and if nobody can come up with a work around, I say boycott the bastards.

I had a mac for three weeks I hated it, and traded it in on my new Dell. In my opinion nothing works right on a mac.

This website is not compatible with Macintosh systems.

Microsoft recently announced that it will no longer be offering Internet Explorer for the Mac. Unfortunately, this means that the movies on this site will NOT play on Macintosh systems. We are working hard to implement an alternative for Mac users, so please stay tuned!

Not sure what they mean here. Maybe they use ActiveX for handling the videos (Which would be completely retarded). Usually when they say not Mac compatible they mean that the videos have DRM which can only be played in Windows. Corbin Fisher have recently removed DRM so hopefully Sean Cody will follow soon...

I apologize to kins123 for offering my opinion on macs. However I feel your pain onetwothreefour, when i had my mac i couldnt access the features on alot of my favorite sites including Sean Cody Corbin Fisher has removed DRM as have other big sites, and as kins123 said, hopefully Sean Cody is going to follow.

Sean Cody.com and MANY other sites use a technology called "DRM" or Digital Right Management which will prevent people from watching the content unless they have an active membership to the site.

It's supposed to prevent piracy but as pirates got better at cracking the code, it's really just pissed off members and not really deterred any pirates.

The trend of the last couple years has reversed recently and many sites (Fratmen included) have begun to drop DRM altogether because quite simply.. it doesn't work. Pirates manage to get DRM-free files and the only people who are stopped are members who can't make the DRM protection work.

Macintosh computers can't use the DRM function because Microsoft was the company that thought the dumb idea up. It's no fault of the Mac. Blame Bill Gates.

Anyway.. yes.. it's possible that Sean Cody will be dropping the DRM from their movies in the future.. I have no idea. The last conversations that I had with those guys on the subject were that they had no intention of dropping it, although we at Fratmen didn't intend to drop it at the time either and we recently changed our minds which has meant I've been up early and staying at work late to re-encode the full catalogue of Fratmen to a non-DRM version.

by the way.. just as an aside...

If your mac has problems, you get to speak with a very helpful person in America who knows the product and knows how to solve your probems. They'll go out of their way to help you.

If your Dell has problems (and they usually do), you'll spend hours on the phone tangling with an annoying voice system befor being transfered to a rude person in India who doesnt' know what they're doing and can't help you.

It says this "Website" will not work on Mac, which is untrue. The only possible way (That I know of) that a whole website wouldn't work on Mac (or Linux) would be if it used ActiveX which would make the web developers idiots.

Internet Explorer has absolutely nothing to do with why the movies won't play on Mac...

As much as I dislike Microsoft, I would have to disagree with you here. It is up to each production company whether they encode their movies using Windows only DRM. Microsoft doesn't force them...

The only thing Microsoft can be blamed for is not coming out with a new version of Media Player for Mac that supports it.

even when there was a version of windows media player for mac, DRM wouldn't work because that's how Microsoft designed it.

Either way.. it's yet another Microsoft product that made some HUGE promises to developers and didn't follow through.

DRM wasn't invented by Microsoft. Microsoft was threatened by the recording industry and movie industry that if they didn't implement it and support it in hardware platforms that they wouldn't be allowed licenses to codecs and codes.

Poor little Microsoft. Big, rich bullies are always pushing them around and forcing them to do things that make them lots and lots of money, and lock all of their competitors out. It's so sad.

and yet most songs on itunes still have DRM while microsofts zune music store will be DRM free as is amazons music store

Steve jobs loves his DRM on music it keeps people buying ipods and while apple is all talk everyone else is actually doing it fully not half assed and costing twice as much so as to protect his precious ipod monopoly

on topic can you use firefox with a WMP plugin or do you have to download the content to your pc

Thanks for all the responses. It's really too bad. I love my iMac, and wouldn't switch to a PC or even buy Windows for my Mac. The DRM is what it is I guess, and I'll just wait.

Just be sure to send Sean Cody an email telling them they've lost a customer because of DRM. Apple shipped 1,764,000 Macintosh computers last quarter - around 7 million computers a year - which is a lot of potential customers to exclude.

If you want to go to that site so badly then why don't you buy Parallels for Mac or VMWARE for Mac. These are two programs that can get your Intel Mac to run Windows.

Is there a program that can get rid of the stupid DRM. I gave in and bought a Sean Cody prescripation and realized only afterwards that when my sub. ends, so will my chance to watch these vids.
