Will The Tonight Show 'jump the shark'?

NBC is going for the younger demographic, and Conan's humor is right there with that.

I am currently spending a few days with a couple of 30 ish guys; they actually watched a bit of Conan's first episode and were laughing. They said they might actually have to START watching...and commented that Leno was just stupid.

Conan can't bring them in.

We stopped watching years ago when Leno just got sooooooooo dreary.

Eventually stopeed watching Letterman as well.

I never liked Leno at all so Conan can only be a chance for the show to improve in my book. I was always pissed that Letterman didn't get the show.

I really liked Leno. I was not impressed with what I saw last night. But I'm willing to give Conan the benefit of the doubt since last night's show didn't contain the usual monologue.

I have not watched the late show's in years - maybe I am just getting older or they just are not funny anymore. After Johnny retired, that began my decline in watching the late shows. And I truly do not find Conan funny - mediocre humor at best. Letterman was better when he was on NBC after Carson.

I never could stand Jay Leno, so I stoped watching the Tonight Show after Johnny retired.

I used to tape Conan's show to watch the comedy skits which were usually funny, but he's a terrible interviewer. You can always tell it's just a regurgitation of the pre-interview. I can't remember the last time I saw his show and doubt I'll be watching him on Tonight. (Plus, Andy Richter gives me the hives.)

In his younger edgier days on NBC Letterman was my favorite, but as he's aged and mellowed, he not nearly as funny as he was.

Jump? He's swimming with them.

The tonight show should be hosted by a guy that young people would want to hang out with and your mom would like to live next to.

Jay and Johnny were perfect. Conan misses the mark by a mile. My parents don't get that whole nerd chic that he's got. To them he's a weirdo with stupid hair who cracks jokes they don't get.

Tonight show jumped the shark last night.

lol luckily none of you are the Tonight Show's target audience anymore.

I saw Conan last night and won't be tuning in tonight. I liked Leno and find Letterman just pain silly as has been said. My favorite now is Jimmy Kimmel and his Mexican sidekick... And Jimmy Fallon is just too frantic for me!!

Once again I'm in the minority here. I thought Conan was a huge hit last night. He looked very confident, and was very funny. I'm sure his Tonight Show will be very successful, just as much as his Late Night was. I also liked Jay. So many people have such polarizing opinions where they are incapable of liking two of anything. The only thing about the new Conan I questioned from last night was Andy Richter's return. At first I was glad. But after awhile he felt a bit too much in the way and a distraction. Conan has proved he is capable of holding his own, without having a sidekick. Hopefully they work on this somehow.

And sorry, but some of you just have no idea what Jumping the Shark really means. Nothing in last night show was jumping the shark. It was 100% of what anyone would ever expect from Conan.

I loved Jay. It's no wonder that he always trounced Letterman in the ratings. Letterman just seems like a cranky old man. I remember when he bombed hosting the Oscars years back. My partner just stared at the TV saying, "This guy is the least humorous person I've ever seen". I'll reserve judgement on Conan , for a few weeks anyway.
