Does anybody have a will? I've been thinking about this a lot lately because my father has recently died and I'm at that age ( 48 ), while not quite dead yet, it's a comin' sooner rather than later, and at the very least one toe is in the grave.

My only potential beneficiaries are my two nieces. Problem is, I have an icy relationship (non existent, really) with my brother (he hates "gay people" ) and I have meet his daughters only a couple of times in twenty or so years. So, they are out.

What is a gay guy to do with his assets who will never have any heirs? I'd like to donate to a "gay cause," but which? HRC? I'm also into nature and what not, and I'm thinking The Nature Conservatory.

Yes, I have a will.

What you choose to do with your life's assets is a very personal decision that only you can make. In my case, the way it stands right now, in the event anything happens to me, I have left everything to my mother and a portion to 2 very close, lifelong friends. (my father is deceased). If my mother pre-deceases me, then everything goes to my 2 friends and a portion goes to a local gay support agency. I do have 2 brothers and a sister (all married) who have already announced that they are leaving everything to their respective spouses. I informed them that was fine and they obviously needed nothing from me.

It is never too early to make a will. Given the unpredictable nature of life, it is a sound decision and often prevents legal problems after you are gone.

Now that I'm thinking, I have to remove the ex from the list of beneficiaries. He isn't getting a dime.

Advanced Medical Directives (aka Living Will)
Financial, Real Estate and Medical Powers of Attorney
Funeral Directives

ALL Gay Men and Women should have these documents.

I certainly do have a will. All left to the nieces and nephews but luckily I still get on with all my family.

But if any of you are concerned as to where you would leave your money, there is a fabulous cause located right here in Melbourne. The SDHB (Save Dobby, He's Broke) Foundation. Your money and assetts will be well cared for!

A will and a living will are both very important documents to have...

One's never too young to have one, by the way...

If you do NOT have a will, the state will take all the assets and money and you will never get to designate anything to anyone.

If you are hospitalized and become comatose or in a coma, you will be placed on life support and remain a veggie like the woman from Florida a few years back.......Terri Schivao,! NO one wants that, do you??

So, by all means, make out a will and leave your stuff to someone or some cause you like and don't forget the "living Will" either, so that you will NOT become a vegetable just laying there with tubes stuck up you, etc...

I think the living will is very important--- especially if you're on the "outs" with your family. That way you can make your end-of-life decisions for yourself. And, you know, younger people are more likely to be hurt in accidents than are older folks.
