Pix from the latest Windows 7 built leaked this week...
The most notable change in the UI is the new taskbar.
The new desktop includes a thicker taskbar, improved system tray and no sidebar.
The orb on the start menu also glistens after hover over.

It is said that Windows 7 will consumer less system resources that Vista...

Jump lists are accessible by right clicking on instances in the taskbar and they give
you a list of recent documents using the recent documents API.
Jump lists are also available on the start menu.

Libraries are now included in Windows 7 to help you better manage documents.
Libraries is a collection of content like photos, pictures and music.
Libraries allow you to add storage and keep the pictures stored locally across
lots of drives but have links to the library.

SOME of things you mention are already present in XP with which I have YET to lose 1 byte of data.
You're right though about reworking the kernel to make it less of a resource hog.......

The part that REALLY sucks is all the folks who got either sucked in or FORCED into having to use it.......

Vista is better than XP 10 to 1. And Windows 7 has more shit than XP could think of.

No, every windows user wants an improved kernel. They just don't know it. When a user complains about system-wide stability, crashes, and the likes they are generally talking kernel space problems.

When windows users complain about 32 bit not supporting more than 4 GB of memory they really are complaining about window's haphazard memory handling. (compound that with the fact most of todays programs are not written to be memory (or for that matter, clock) efficient) we have a two-fold problem. How about this Jazz, my fully functional desktop enviroment, along with compiz-fusion, and a whole lot of bells and whistles, under full everyday load NEVER, NEVER EVER goes above 1GB of useage. In fact if it goes above 500MB of used ram, I start to wonder "what'sup?", and this has led to me pondering the removal of one of my RAM modules to squeeze out another 2 or 3 % battery life. The only time I go over 1GB is when I open large photo files for editing with many layers or GIGANTIC (30"x42" @300dpi) fractal renderings.

When Windows users complain about wireless network stability and continually being dropped, I'm left scratching my head wondering how the network I'm utilizing at an average disconnect every 8 hours in linux, avereaged only 30 minutes before a disconnect in windows.

When windows users cry and bemoan their forced hand in upgrading their OS to run new software, and their PC to get their new OS. I'm chuckling over here with a pentium 3 desktop for my cousins fully operational with all the same "aero'-like effects rendering quickly and adeptly and still fully operational with all the latest and greatest software. to do whatever it is they want.

When windows user's complain about having to pay for or find EFFECTIVE free anti-virus software and ad-ware and mal-ware removal software or be faced with a veritable biological circuitous creation that serves as a virtual petri dish of a plethora of collectible segments of malicious code....All operational because of major security flaws within, user/admin/kernel space... they're really asking for increased security


So, like I said, who care about some glistening orb? shit, I'll find a compiz-fusion plugin which makes all my windows sparkle like diamonds. I don't care about some glistening button that has a transparency effect. (which more than likely was implemented with a nasty hack from admin-space, lol)

Ask the windows user, would you rather care about a glistening orb? or improved access controls which would greatly reduce your susceptability to certain malicious virii?

This built is not even a beta yet.

It's just something built on Vista to test some new ideas.

Talking about the kernel at his point is weird. let's wait and see. So far I like the new ideas, the new taskbar is great imo and the way it organizes windows.

Libraries are great, jump lists can be useful too.

And no, I ain't no switching to a $2199 iMac, I'd probably stick to my $500 machine with same parameters...

I want it to be a buggy and insecure as any other Windows. I want MS market share to faulter and others to rise. I want a day when Windows is just another OS alternative. In short, real competition! That which MS fears the most.

real competition requires competitors and there are none in the PC market the only potential one is apple if they sell it like windows for pc's which they wont

What are the memory requirements? What are the minimum CPU requirements? Will the average user of a four year old computer be forced to buy a new computer to get it u and running on Windows 7? EVEN THOUGH the computer is still fully operational and functional in every sense of the word?


I'd be willing to bet that just like every other version of windows there's services started and running that will provide back doors for trojans, worms and and entire biological spectrum of similar ilk to gain unauthorized access to administration privelages and kernel level access. It has happened in each and every version of windows.

There's a rush for new features, new abilities, pushing for new and great things which are written (haphazardly at best, poorly inneficient and wholey deffective in the worst) to implement these things with a half assed attempt at provuding security (read that as "Are you sure you want to run this program?")

Windows 7, like all it's predecessors will be riddled with security flaw after flaw after flaw uncovered on a seemingly regular basis causing them to run around like chickens with their heads cut off issuing even further defficient code and patches which break many more things than they fix for quite a few users. (Nimbda?)

Linux and mac are by no means nothing better than a snake oil with antibiotic properties for a bacterial infection. Their designs are lacking in many regards as well. But the level to which Microsoft continually digs itself deeper and deeper is simply nothing short of mind boggling in the nicest possible manner of speaking.

We're going to see an entire repeat of events once again, as is expected, yet we have accepted as some sort of normallacy only because we've been told thats the way it is.

Only linux will run successfully on a old computer and you know it. Neither Microsoft or Apple will and refuse to make a operating system to run on an old computer. Unlike Linux, they ARE trying to make a profit, and are always trying to innovate because they have each other to compete with. To fucking bitch that it wont run on a four year old computer is dumb and ludicrous.

Now about it being big, they have already said that it is a lot smaller than Windows Vista, and a lot more fluid. Also, if you want to find this shit out, get the beta version and test it yourself. They have said they aren't adjusting the kernal, but that was an old statement, and they probably have already.

You don't have to place a bet that there will be vulnerabilities in the Operating System. This is windows after all. Again, to get mad over such a thing is ludicrous. No matter how hard they try to make the operating system flawless, there are smarter people out there who will find the wholes. Hell, Apple had to go back to an old OS or Kernal module (no idea which) to ensure that their OS wouldn't be vulnerable.

Microsoft has stated that they are not gonna release a feature on Windows 7 until it is completely finished. Not partially, not almost, but fully. This is a completely new way of doing shit for MS, as they usually put out ten or twelve half finished features which gets them in trouble.


And really to point this out, Vista was and is incredibly secure, still is. The number of flaws and viruses found are incredibly small compared to old versions of Windows. The problem people had with Vista was it's lack of compatability with printers and other hardware, which were the manufacterurs problems, not Microsofts. If Microsoft decided to make drivers for other peoples hardware, people would be screaming Monopoly.

One thing bloggers really couldn't argue with was Vista's VASTLY improved security. It might not be as secure as Linux and Mac's mind you, but considering what we expect of Windows security, it was quite impressive.

Every company in the world wants to become a monopoly, and Microsoft achieved it. But I digress, lots of people hate big companies ("the man").

But then again, neither Linux nor Apple seemed to be able to compete. Apple was set to be the monopoly of the market (and then you would be mad at them) but they screwed up time and time again. And we would all be in love with Microsoft. (i know, hard to imagine, but true)

I like the look of the way it operates, on that video. It looks one heck of a lot more intuitive than anything Microslop has come out with yet, to me! I wouldn't mind having that on my machine.

But then my machine can't even have VISTA, which is (according to a pair of computer techs I know) a "godforsaken memory hog".

I agree to a great extent with orion; the things I can't stand about the Windows XP I run is kernel stuff. There are cosmetic handling things that could be better, but I think that's gonna be the case forever.
