Gates may be back in charge but what the hell is he doing?

Bill isn't in charge any more. Satya Nadella is the new CEO. Bill will be spending most of his time at his foundation called Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

the calculator in Win 8, which is an app that takes over the entire screen, meaning it's useless for any practical purpose.

If you're using a touch screen you would use the Modern UI calculator. If you don't want it to use the entire screen just snap it to 1/6 of the screen and fill the rest of your screen with the desktop or what ever app you want to use.

if you're not using a touch screen just use the standard calculator.

Gates still has a technical role in the company. Be sure of that!

A book could be written about China: Nation of Thieves, or perhaps Pirate Nation.

That explains their new version of Amazon, called "Alibaba". Which I originally thought was a strange choice of names for a Chinese nation.

Windows 8 was for touch screens. That should have been painstakingly obvious from the advertisements. I have no idea why all these people who never had any intention of using their computer with a touch screen bothered with Windows 8. With Windows 9 just around the corner, all leaks would appear to say that Microsoft is focusing solely on improving Desktop experiences, and just leaving any and all advancements in touch functionality to the wayside. Thanks a lot assholes.

Yeah, they're focusing on enhancing the desktop experience ... lol. Which means putting a lot back the way it was. They also are focusing on the stupid cloud which I don't get at all. I mean, all it is, is offsite data storage. And I'll be darned if I'm uploading my personal, private data to some data center thousands of miles away where it can be hacked by everyone from the NSA to crooks in Russia and China. No thank you.

Because they discontinued support on XP and other earlier versions which people liked, and then jammed Win8 down our throats whether we liked it or not, and indifferent to the non-touch screen PC's people already have whom want a real mouse and keyboard, and whom don't want to relearn a new operating system.

It's called Windows 7. Try it.

Apple and Google are pushing the cloud just as much. I think it's kinda funny how much crap people give Microsoft for it's cloud services. At least Microsoft Office let's you save your stuff offline which is more than anyone can say about Google Docs.

^ The Chinese don't care about copyright laws. It is absurd to ban Windows 8 because of some complaint over Windows XP.

They will just pirate Windows 8 and use it everywhere, including government. It's what they have always done, and will always do.
Frankly, I think the Chinese are still pissy that their Red Flag Linux didn't work out. It was hilarious when as a measure of last resort they actually tried to force coffee shops into buying it for 800 Yuan. Apparently they never got the memo that Linux is supposed to be free.

The moment a company stops supporting a piece of software, it should become public domain.

Google is becoming evil.
