Where VISTA Fails

I got Vista Home Premium a few days ago. Haven't had any major problems. Had to change some settings so that my internet and Yahoo Messenger worked. (I guess the Firewall was being a little too overprotective.) My system is about a 6 month old Dell laptop. 1.83 GHz centrino duo, 1 gb of RAM, 60 gb harddrive. Seems just as fast as XP.

fantastic.. and here I am just now getting used to windows 95 on my 486 and there is a new version of windows??? I smell problems ahead...

They are up to a 486 now? No wonder even the garbage man wouldn't take away my 286!

Oh My Gawd.........can't believe how long ago that was! First computer purchased from local "Mom & Pop" store, 486DSX33, had those very large 5 inch floppies, told clerk I wanted to do graphics, so ended up spending $4300.00! I think this was 1987.

Took it home, I forget what it was called exactly, but it had software that whatever you typed, a robotic male voice would speak it out.

I remember spending hours making my computer say: "Suck My Cock Sam" .......did this for hours until I realized it was warm day, and my window was open to my neighbors next door who were a married couple who were also Pastors of a Church!

LMFAO! Sam! I just got Windows Vista 2 days ago. I had some trouble with the auido. It said there were no Audio Output Devices installed, but I just updated the Software needed for that, and now things work fine.
I love windows vista though. It looks so awesome, and i was able to set up my wireless network really easy in my house. I enjoy it alot, and i love the look!

Are you sure you've installed Vista?

The setup is completely different - the interface is different and it's faster.

It stops just before the logon and does a special scan of your PC to optimize Vista.

It allows you to select your background wallpaper just before you logon for the first time.

It's definitely faster at installing - definitely.

I mean it looks different. The main part (copying files, expanding, installing, etc) seems the same though, just a bunch of waiting. It does let you pick the wallpaper and your user icon. The changes just didn't seem like that big of a deal to me.

An open letter to Bill Gates

Dear Bill Gates
Give me back my weekend. I bought a new Windows Vista laptop – and that’s when the trouble began.
My dislike of your new user interface you can put down to the conservatism that comes with advancing years. However having loyally stuck by the galumphing, unaesthetic functionality of your operating systems over the past 15 years, while faced with ridicule from pretentious Mac-loving types, I resent your attempt at an elegance transplant.
But what really grates is that your system is incompatible with two of the vital tools of my trade. Vista refuses to load the software for my newish Olympus digital recorder. And here’s what takes the biscuit. Vista rejects my HP IPAQ handheld device – even though the software for that was created by Microsoft!
So in order to put Vista at the centre of what I do, I would have to buy hundreds of pounds of new hardware. Which may be great news for your industry, but makes me regret never having defected to Steve Jobs. Perhaps now’s the time.
The only thing that gives me any comfort is that I am apparently not alone in my Vista-stress. Over lunch yesterday with the head of a very large media company, I learned of Vista incompatibility problems with financial ramifications that might actually register in Redmond.
My conclusion? For all the expensive and much-extended gestation, Vista was not ready for commercial release. And, just so you know, I’ve never once had a comparably horrible experience with the Google boys.
Yours sincerely

Don't shoot me. I am only the messenger of bad tidings. Don't say you haven't been warned.[-X

I just bought Windows Vista Home Premium online. I got a great deal. under $100 for home premium upgrade since I'm a student. Dell has released all the drivers for vista and they still sell my laptop with vista on it. I can't wait to install it next week!

I hate office 07 though. I won't be buying or even pirating that.

It took years of convincing to get me to upgrade to XP. I guess the only question I have is, if my computer runs fine now...why would I want to upgrade? What will it give me? apart from a slower PC and all that DRM crap...

so.. does IE look the same? wish they would come up with a cooler version.. its so bland.
