Windows Vista & Office 12 launched

Wow, my friend is in a chat room screaming about how bad Vista is, a lot of the things won't work, it doesn't support his keyboard, it doesn't support his audio card. He said that HP guaranteed him that everything would be Vista Compatible. Looks like Vista isn't what it turned out to be.

Or maybe he shouldn't've wanted to become an early adopter so badly... With Windows, there is one golden rule: don't buy the first version. It's bound to be buggy and not compatible with stuff you already have. Wait a while and see what drivers come out.

Quoth he with Windows XP and Office 97...

Yeah, I'm going to avoid upgrading as long as I can. XP has its quirks but at least I know about them and what to do to fix most of them.

That and my school was hosting XP for us... hopefully they'll put Vista up eventually so I won't have to spring the cash for it right away. It'll probably be basic or something though so I'll have to get the better package anyway, but it'll at least hold me over until I can.

They need to put this on all their packaging so you can have a warning before you buy it.

I don't know what all the crying is about.

I installed Vi$ta Ultimate and the only problem I have with it is the fact that I can't do an 'offline' activation.

It didn't have drivers for my Realtek sound chip so I used my XP drivers and it works fine.

Stop your whining - it's a beautiful OS.

Well with a super fast computer of course it would install with no problems.

Gawdammit I ain't got no sooperdooper PC :grrr:

I've got a Toshiba M70 laptop with a gig of ram (shared graphics) and a 1.73gig Intel Pentium M !oops!

I used XP drivers for any that Vi$ta didn't have and they work just fine.

..|

Now stop your whining guys and suck it up!

:p

I don't even have Vista but all these people who install on their laptop then it crash on them is just making my heart ooze with acid.

Im sticking with the Vista Transformation pack until i can afford a comptuer with vista on it! As the transformation pack make sit look like vista and adds some of the features! So im guessing ill love the real thing as i love what i have of it now!

I'll use it to keep up with tech support issues etc. but as the guy in sheep's link says (sorta) if I want a beautiful OS I'll go with OSX but his main point was that Windows is complicated and OSX is simple and for once I'd have to agree - having to re-learn an M$ OS (cos they've moved a lot of stuff around and hidden some of it really deep in Vi$ta) then now is as good a time for most people to make the jump to Mac.
That is one of the major beefs with MS OS's. You have to learn all over when the next OS is released.
And rumours of noelie and sheep having a torrid love affair are unfounded.:dead:

Just visited a computer store here in Munich. They have the Vista Ultimate for 560 Euro, that is 730$ . The US price however is 380$.

Wooow

what is the vista transformation pack? i'll have to go google it now.

sorry i didn't mean the new office was definitely not backwards compatible, i was sorta answering when someone else said it wasn't. i was just saying basically that would suck.

The vista transformation pack is a thing that makes your computer on XP look like Vista!

By what ive noticed its changes,

Task bar into vista one
It gives you that new sidebar
It gives you new icons
New start up screen
New Images thing for desktop
You can hide your taskbar and just have the floating windows thing to go to program files
It changes the look of MSN Messneger

Not everything is the same to vista but its very close on the look of it. But you dont get like the extra features.

This sites the one i got it from

It doesnt have any spyware on it, but if you do download it you need to know what your internet connection is.

Also it says you install it at your own risk, i havnt had a single problem but if your worried about something bad happening then just backup before you do it.

I installed Ultimate and Office Enterprise Edition (Thanks, Dad.). They both work great, so far. I did a clean install, because I didn't need all of that XP baggage I had from a few years of working...

I also had a little trouble with the Realtek sound chip I have on my motherboard, but I got it straightened out. I found a Vista driver after a search on the web.

i checked out vista at best buy tonight. god it's expensive. i was going to ask how many they had sold, but no one ever came buy to ask me if i needed help. lol usually i get asked by several people while i'm there.

thanks for the update on the vista transformation pack. i googled it after i posted and found it looked pretty cool. i'm concerned though it said on CNET that installation was not for the weak of heart...so i didn't download it.

Hey lonestar - I lived in Munich for nearly a year - Wie geht's?

You can download it for free ;)

The upgrade can be used for a full install though and it's like half the price.

Google it and you'll get the details.

Noelie and Sheep? Well I have been accused of being a sheep shagger in the past so...

sorry getstoseven I haven't cum yet ;)

Gut gehts ;) Yeah I know, but I still will get my copy from Microsoft free, so no problem ;)

^ How long have you been running that?

Ermm not to sure over a week now. And not had a single problem with it. And to be honest my computer is not that good and can only just run the real vista, so id rather have what ive got, than slow my computer down. And im sure when im ready to buy a new computer ill just get one with Vista on it already.
