Very simple: It means that the guy is interested but not so much interested to start something as otherwise he could have send a message.

I dont understand some guys' hangup on "winks". It's simply a way of saying they are interested without having to ask "how you doing" 1000 times cuz how do you even expect someone to catch your attention by "saying something interesting" when he doesnt freaking know you at all??

mass winks are easier to do than writing up a message to everyone. lol

OR, maybe some fear rejection and having someone not reply to a wink is better than to a message you wrote.

i don't know.. i've used "winks" before, and it was genuine.. so if the person came to talk to me after, then i would talk. I think it's just a case that there are MANY people who just don't know how to have conversations online.. they don't show interest, they just respond to questions you ask them. It gets annoying that way. That's not just the case with winkers. :) I guess the ones that take the time to write already have shown more initiative in WRITING something, so they can at least generate conversation better.

i don't know. :)

I sometimes use it when the guy's profile somehow excludes me in his preferences because I'm older, blonder, shorter or whatever, so I give him the opportunity to decide.

What's the purpose of the "wink" feature on some dating sites?

Its a money making feature.
If you are not a paid member, You can't send messages but you can wink.
