Wisc. Governor Makes a Cold-Blooded Threat to Sic the National Guard on Union Workers

Noam Chomsky wants protests in Wisconsin just like Egypt

more people are demonstrating in Wisconsin than Bahrain... HA

I wonder if that will matter or get reported as such.

UPDATE: The Wisconsin Senate Democrats just sent a big "FUCK YOU" to Governor Mubarak and walked out. I admire them for their actions.

Thanks for the update. I understand that in Wisconsin's legislature, there has to be a quorum in order to pass laws related to the budget. I believe this means that in this case, the GOP is SOL! :p

It seems that coward democrats are refusing to do their jobs and vote. Maybe the governor should send the National Guard after them and drag them back into Madison at gunpoint and in irons to ensure their attendance. Or maybe he should simply declare their seats to have been vacated and appoint legislators who may actually come to work. I'm sure there are plenty of unemployed people who would love to be a legislator. They only need one to move along with a vote.

OOOH

a government crack down. That'll fix them. It's worked so well in other countries lately.

The plot thickens... Jack, I've missed ya.

This morning I accidentally turned on this freak show called "Fox and Friends". It's the second time I've seen this and couldn't believe their "news reporting" on this story.

They were using terms like "union thugs", "the brave Republican governor" and of course bashing unions, all things labor and Democrats in general. Is this "fair and balanced"?

What's with Republicans from Wisconsin anyway? There's already been talk of Republican wackos coming from the Cheesehead state, and this confirms it.

Great...Little Rock, 1957. Madison, 2011.

Swell idea, Governor Mubarak!

the president would order the National Guard to stand down. They would NOT disobey him. It just wont happen, shouldn't happen, and won't happen.

Looks like some people are going to have to realize that you can't vandalize the programs of the nation in the name of deficit reduction. This is bad bad press for the republicans as they head into their hatchet routine in DC.

Its all just about union busting in this Wisconsin case. He is trying to assert power over the collective bargaining rights of the citizenry, and that can't happen.

People want government to make real changes that really affect the budget, not superficial scrapes that will damage the middle class's earning potential.

Can you imagine if the roles were reversed and there were a bunch of coward Republicans running away and leaving the state? The far-left would vilify them

^ BTW Welcome back.

While you no longer have Bear Daddy to swab the deck with, we'll try to get some difference of opinion going among the libs on the board to keep you sharp and ready in case we're all keelhauled by a galleon of skullfucking reactionaries as the 2012 elections creep up.

While they go running on the days when God's own Party crushes the dreams of homo equality and dignity in the US, they are always back when there's something about Obama to bash.

walk outs are ok when you are defending wiretapping. Thats even patriotic..... but hey now

If you walk out in defense of labor interests you are a coward.

that makes no sense.

That's right.

And when you shut down government when you don't get your way.

Seems palemale is begging to be banned

Yeah, wouldn't that be a tragedy? How I would miss your silly, misinformed posts. I might actually have to tune into Fox News for my daily dose of Republican nonsense.

Dispose of democratically elected senators and replace them with ones appointed by a Republican governor?

Now that's a neo-con executive power grab that would make even Dick Cheney look timid.

Looks to me like they are doing their job: doing what they can to prevent the state from adopting a piece of foolish legislation.

The bizarre thing here is that according to news reports, the unions are willing to agree to everything else except the provision to strip their collective bargaining right. That's as much a right as marriage equality. Now if this was a piece of legislation banning unmarried, non-hetero couples from living together, I'd expect the Democrats to walk out just the same as they're presently doing.

This is the sort of situation which gives the need for something like a filibuster: the party in power wants to trample someone's rights, so the minority says, "NO" in an emphatic way.

However corrupt and greedy many unions have become, collective bargaining is a right just as much as marriage. Those who love freedom should support whatever it takes to blovk this step backward.
