I was going to have 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled out this Friday, but the dentist got sick so we put if off for next Tuesday. The problem is, my birthday is on the Sunday following that operation, that is 5 days after the operation. Do you think the time for recovery will be more than enough for being back to normal on Saturday night drinking and having fun out in clubs? Cos I wanna celebrate this year...

How long did it take you to get recovered?

It all depends on the dentist I have have two wisdom teeth removed
(on seperate ocasions) one even had to be surgically removed and i was
fine and at work the next day. But I have known others to have it done and complained about the pain days later. I didnt even have to take the pain pills they gave me. I guess I may have been lucky or the dentists I used were GREAT.

i bled for weeks & lost 2 jobs because of a wisdom tooth removal!

ooo, I hope their will be some good experiences on Wisdom teeth removal. I might have to get one removed too, and I hate dentists. :/

3-removed and they were impacted

1-full day of sleep with pain pills

started eating when I woke up and was pain free and just fine. Had stitches removed a week later.

No big deal! Just find a good oral surgeon. Don't know if I'd recommend a Dentist.

4 removed all impacted, but otherwise the same as above especially the oral surgeon part.

I wouldn't plan on drinking alcohol 5 days after oral surgery.

Reschedule and enjoy your birthday.

There's another thread here about just this.
I've had two removed so far and ZERO trouble with them. Dentist had to split one but no biggy. Only would stop bleeding AFTER I took the packing out. Damn packing was only irritating the gum........ :grrr:
My first one was pulled at around 11AM and I was eating pork chops at 4PM......not chewing on that SIDE of course......but eating nevertheless....... ..|

BOOZING might not be the smartest move you ever made........let's hope in YOUR case they are called WISDOM teeth for a reason....... ;)

For me, 3 removed, 2 impacted. Procedure was fine, they froze me and I didn't feel anything.

But once the freezing wore off, I was in pain. It was quite bad, out of commission (no work, no solid foods) for a week.

I went to an oral surgeon, and I did my research. I just think it varies person to person. Some people are fine the next day. Some people it can take 2 weeks to recover. Generally, if they are impacted, it will be a harder recovery. Just get it done and don't make firm plans for your birthday in case you may not be feeling up to it. You could always celebrate your birthday the following Saturday anyway.

I had all 4 removed during the summer. The procedure was quick but recovering was not. It took like 3 weeks and the first week was the worst

I've read that if you're going to have wisdom teeth removed, it's better to go all out and get them all removed instead of doing a partial. Whether you have two or four removed, your healing time is going to be the same. It's better to get them taken care of in one sitting versus having remaining wisdom teeth that have even the slightest possibility of giving you trouble down the line. This is especially true if you're getting the procedure done while you're still young enough to grow the bone back. I think it's something like after age 24 your body loses the ability to recover the bone loss from the surgery.

I had mine taken out by an oral surgeon a few years ago. Bled a lot the first couple days and actually got scared because nothing was staunching it. Eventually I "teabagged" myself after reading about their effectiveness online, and that seemed to work the best. Just pop a couple teabags in and they'll soak up the flow. Plus they leave a nice aromatic taste that counteracts the bitterness of the blood quite well <3.

Had two removed--no problems the next day, no pain and started eating regularly. Drove myself home and used a couple of the pain pills just in case I needed them to sleep, not really because I was in pain.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the same time whilst under general anaesthetic in hospital, as they were all impacted.

It took a day to get of the op, but longer for me to eat and drink properly again as I couldn't open my mouth. I had a huge bruise on my chest which took a few weeks to disappear, and I had a loss of feeling in half my tongue. This is a known risk due to nerves being close to the roots of the teeth. It took around 6 months to recover my feeling and be able to talk properly.

I had all four removed. Mine were not impacted, and a part of my "normal" teeth. But they were pushing a little bit on both the top and bottom sets, and would just get worse and worse, so I had them taken out.

I remember trying to eat a McFlurry or something icecreamish afterward. It essentially dripped down the front of me because I couldn't feel my tongue/lips at all

I was also a bad boy, and smoked the day of, but being very very careful to not make the "sucking motion" - sucking a straw, sucking a cig, whatever it may be. I did not want any dry sockets, because I've heard they hurt really really bad.

Every night I had to clean them out with a syringe, which produced some disgusting byproducts of the food I had eaten that day  but once again, and food particles left in the holes of where the teeth were extracted from can lead to abscess, dry sockets, etc.

My stitches dissolved within 2-3 weeks, and I was back to my normal eating self :) I did make sure the holes were absolutely, 100% closed before trying anything "abnormal" for lack of a better word.

Good luck! ..|

I've had three removed on three separate occasions, once by a dentist, twice by an oral surgeon. No pain, just discomfort and I went to school two hours after on one occasion.

However, the anaesthetic the oral surgeon gave me both times messed me up completely. I don't do drugs, but I *think* that's what a trip must be like. I had to take the bus, 'cause cycling was simply not safe. Word of advice: make sure you can be brought home, whether by a friend or public transport.

Thanks for all your comments guys, keep them coming! Now I'm not so worried about how long it'll take me to be back to "normal", that is, doing basic stuff like going to work. The only thing now is if I could make it for my birthday party four nights later (that is, including alcohol and dancing).

But if things are not going right, I may have to put my party off for the next weekend

You maybe able to celebrate your B-day but drinking wont be good cause your going to have to take antibiotics for a week after and its not good to drink and take the meds

This is pretty much my case. I went to an oral surgeon, he gave me a mild sedative, froze my mouth, and removed all four. I ate soup that day and the next, but was back to eating normal food the day after. He gave me a perscription for tylenol 3's, but found that regular advil worked the best for pain/swelling. Was basically pain free aftet the first day.

I had all four wisdom teeth extracted about six years ago with nothing but novocain. The procedure itself was quick and easy. The only pain came from the ten or so shots of novocain and I drove myself home and went to bed, relieved it was "all over."

Within two hours, I awoke in so much pain and agony, I prayed that the Lord would take me in that instant! I gobbled pain pills like candy.

My jaws locked up, I had comlications, an infection, more agony, self-pity, death wishes, and delirium. After five straight days in bed, I was finally on the mend.

Within two weeks I was right as rain. All's well that ends well.

That was not very wise. I got so high from the novocaine when I had mine pulled. (by the dentist and later at the hospital) that I couldn't even walk straight.
